LCD Soundsystem乐队，在音乐创作上，只有James Murphys一个人参与，而到现场演出时，则由一支Full Band形式出现。

James Murphys是著名组合The DFA的成员和DFA厂牌的老板之一，还曾作为Radio 4和The Rapture制作人成为2002年Disco－Punk的圈儿里最受尊崇的红人。在2002年，他的个人作品正式以LCD Soundsystem的名义发表。首先带来的是一张名为Losing My Edge的单曲唱片，在这首歌当中，James Murphys没有用歌词延续这种将朋克的叛逆与电子舞曲节奏相结合的音乐在最初时拥有的政治色彩，而是用嚎叫或者咆哮的方式朗诵了自己音乐上受到的诸如Krautrock先锋Can、纽约Punk-Funk乐队Liquid Liquid等乐团的影响。

2005年，发表了首张同名专辑，收录了从2002年到专辑发表之前作成单曲和没发表过的作品，其中包括《Losing My Edge》、《Yeah》、《Give It Up》等6首作品。
