Kamelot由吉他手Thom Youngblood与鼓手Richard Warner在1991年所蕴酿组成。1995年8月，乐团发行了首张《Eternity》，引起许多乐迷及乐评们的注意，隔年Kamelot发行了第二张专辑《Dominion》，此张专辑较前一张作品获到更广大的好评，Kamelot展现了其音乐的广阔性，强烈的欧洲金属风格，加上前卫元素与古典色彩，同时，以中古世纪欧洲宫庭、城堡及骑士的史诗记事为题的作风，企图带给所有听者更大的想像空间！然而，就在96年秋天，Kamelot正要与 Virgin Steele一同展开欧洲的巡回演唱时，鼓手Richard Warner和主唱Mark Vanderbilt却因私人因素而无法参与演出，於是他们两人立刻被踢出乐团，而Kamelot亦不得不取消演出计划。不久后，乐团找来新任鼓手 Casey Grillo加入，不过在主唱方面却一直找不到适任的人选，直到新专辑几近完成之时，仍然独缺主唱一职。终於，在一次因缘巧合之下，Thom得知同属 Noise旗下的乐团Conception解散的消息，於是便邀请其主唱Roy S. Kahn加入，同时也顺利地完成第三张专辑《Siege Perilous》的录制，并於98年推出。优美的吉他旋律、symphonic式键盘加上带点诡跼感的钢琴，使整张专辑充满著一种宫庭的富丽堂皇，与中古世纪的神秘气息，同时Khan其充满感情、苍桑而又高亢的嗓音，更贴切地诠饰出这样的史诗情怀。

这支来自美国的乐队调式、气质，一切都是那么欧式。独特精巧的旋律和编排丝毫没有抄袭模仿的痕迹，更不是一般乐队能够抄袭得了的。

尤为值得一提的是挪威籍主唱Roy Khan的嗓音是最大亮点。这位主唱才华横溢，细腻的音色和措词充满激情，既能表现出花前月下的浪漫，又能表现出铁马金戈的豪迈，余音绕梁。

    Oh and if you like Kakko you must like that Serenity guy's voice almost identical to Tony's, too. Anyway I think Serenity is a Sonata clone that has been doing better than Sonata most recently - you should check it out if you don't know them. Just the music for you (us?) soft symphonic melo metal people! :D Also must add Tom S. Englund, although I question him singing plain power metal. What interpretations! Just listen to Evergrey's The Inner Circle album and you know what I'm talking about. Also the reason why I actually wanted to post twice. The man who damn sure sings power metal, way more power metal actually than anyone below: David DeFeis from Virgin Steele. He just roars like a lion - maybe that's how he got that nickname... Oh and hopefully Kamelot will come up with a good album! I only have Epica so far though, anxiously looking for The Black Halo somewhere with reasonable price. :)

    Khan has one of the best voices I've ever heard. I don't know of any other metal vocalists who are close to being as good as him imo.

    People... Do Kai Hansen or Andi Deris sound the same as anyone else? Nils Patrik Johansson? Jorn Lande? Khan is a great middle register singer, but his stuff doesn't always sound good when he sings high. His voice though is classy, soft, warm, melodic, pleasant, lovable, and it truly has feeling in it. Kakko is actually nowhere near my favorite singer. Nor is Fabio Lione whose Italian nasal voice and crying vibrato doesn't work for me... Of that kind of singers, I like Olaf Hayer more and Morby from Domine easily the most. :) Michael Kiske and Hansi Kürsch are my all time favorites though, both very personal, developed their very own singing styles, and are still rocking after 20 years. The best two metal voices I know.

    I love Andre Matos and his high voice. <3 Roy Khan, Tony Kakko, Tobias Sammet, and Andre. They are the best and in my opinion the only memorable power metal singers. The rest sound the same to me.

    v agreed. Why can't I recognize a single power metal singer? they have all the same voice imo XD So Khan beats them all, you might say that Tony Kakko is the one but I'm not into Sonata Arctica's music.

    I love this band. I heard them for the first time about a year ago, but never gave them any real chance until now. And now I'm completely hooked... I love the voice of Roy Kahn. The best album, if you ask me, is Ghost Opera. Probably because it's a little heavier than the other albums. @Quispiam: Aaron Stainthorpe, for the love of whatever-you-believe-in, is awesome! My Dying Bride is so.... great! In every way!

    Glad we had a nice and civilized short discussion...of sort. I though all well-mannered people around "da internetz" were dead already. I have one last thing to ask (if you don't mind that is) after which I'll remain silent - since apparently you know Kamelot more than I do, might you be willing to share your favorite album by them and if The Black Halo is the one, your second then? It's time for me to try another piece and an advise won't hurt. Thank you.

    SonicX: No, it wasn't. I never looked at your charts. Barlow and Lande are just two often celebrated vocalists whose greatness I don't understand. Kotipelto is another one. I don't know, the reason I like Khan so much is because I find his voice really emotional and intense, not because of any technical ability.

    They are both decent, but not great. Truth to be told, all three are well suited for their respected bands. Roy Khan is also good (or very good or perfect - depending on the opinion), I just don't see all the fuzz about his skills. I have a different concept about music so don't pay much attention to what I say - for me the best solo is not the most technical, fast, long or popular - the best solo is the one that touched you in a way you'll remember. Same goes for the vocals. Not to mention that I'm still particularly new to Kamelot so my opinion may very well be invalid. Plus The Black Halo is steadily growing on me. I hope that part about Barlow was not intended to make me, I don't know, angry with fanboysm, just because I have over 2000 plays of Iced Earth, correct? Because for me comparing one band to another (no matter the genre) is very...dull. No offense.

    Who else would it be? Don't say Jorn Lande or Matt Barlow. The only modern metal vocalist who I feel can compete with Khan is Tommy Karevik of Seventh Wonder.
