when i bought zoolook, i was really confused. it was so different from oxygene, equinoxe, magnetic fields and the concerts in china. the salesman told me: "yes, it's weird. but try it loud at home..." zoolook is still my favorite jarre-album. and i think it is his best - what a shame, this is 25 years ago now. ethnicolor still makes me upset, fairlight & co at it's best, beeing used as a real creative hammer. > The last 3 minutes are orgasmic. couldn't find a better description.

The whale cry at the start is amazing - apparently he created that by recording his wife (Charlotte Rampling) screaming in the studio, with added reverb, and then reversed the recording, time-stretching it and adding other necessary effects. Or something along those lines, anyway. It's my understanding that he directed her to scream; I don't think he just happened to walk into the studio to find her screaming, and then decided to hit the 'record' button...
