i could always hear the kate bush thing a little bit (although if you listen to happy more you realise that the happy actually has a more measured tonal quality - less screechy) but i never ever got the annie lennox comparison.

I had 'When The Rain Came Down' for years under the misapprehension it was an Annie Lennox/Kate Bush duet. I'm glad it was wrong as it's lead me to discover Happy Rhodes.

i think part of the problem with her appeal is related to aesthetics. her album covers have often been awful (save maybe warpaint and the keep). and until the last few albums, the arrangments have been quite bad too (albeit progressively less cheap sounding - culminating in many worlds and find me sounding absolutely wonderful). the album art still sucks though.

Have to say, I'm usually sceptical (skeptical?) of music reccomendations, since they almost never sound similar to the music they're basing the reccomendation on, but I'm very impressed with Happy Rhodes. The definition of underrated.
