nice song, it didn't impress me, however. those who think that this is awesome are not right, i think. you gotta rank every aspect of a great song, its lyrics, its rhythm, its energy, and its impression on your situation. a great mental background from American Idiot leads to unfair judgement about the new songs. I hope the other tracks more powerful and beautiful.

I don't know what some people have expected- you listen to Green Day, you get Green Day. This song isn't worse than American Idiot (the song). It's stadium rock, but with a message, saying "don't let tv media manipulate you, get up and do something". I like it.

GDAboy you should really just get over people not liking this song. Judging by your 5,000+ plays you are too completely biased to sit and try to argue with someone why Green Day is or isn't good. I keep hoping this band is going to put out something I enjoy again I just think I've simply outgrown them. They were awesome when I was 14, they are just boring now, it's not even the new songs are better or worse than the old songs. It's all just boring to me now.

If dull repetition for 3:11 is considered awesome, I guess this is awesome. The Green Day I grew up with is dead.

Drumbeat at the start sounds like the beginning of a Stone Roses song...I am the Resurrection, I think.

it's not completely terrible, but again it also isn't great. a mediocre song at best. here's to hoping the rest of 21st century breakdown is much better than this.

Also same drum intro as "Rocks" by Primal Scream I think. Ironically it sounds a lot like the Enemy.
