Softer rock sounds doesn't have to be mediocre radiosound. Sometime it isn't. In this case, unfortunately, it is. All their albums are very emotional (they are an emo band, after all), "Tales Don't Tell Themselves" just sets itself apart from the other for all the bad reasons. It just feels empty to me. If FFAF do some great heavy stuff, why get softer and joining a shitload of other bands doing that right now? I reckon a lot of people might enjoy TDTT, but I don't feel that's what FFAF do best. If the band wants to pursue that road, fine, I'll just quit it and go listen to something else. In fact, I've done so since "Hours". I wish they'd go back to a more heavier sound, but if not, fuck it, there are plenty more fish in the sea.

why is everyone hating Tales Dont Tell Themselves? I mean, yeah, it has a softer sound than the other works but you cant pick and judge the tracks of the album one by one anyway. I think you should see the album as a whole. It tells you a story, told via sounds and vocals. To me the album has a very special feeling to it and is way different from the typical radiosound. The record is so emotional and honest. Its one of those few works that really can pull you out of the bad moments in life and show you that there really is light at the end of the tunnel and something worth the struggle called life. It seems to me that everyone thinks that softer rock sounds always has to be mediocre radiosound but that is just wrong.

Do you know where I'm able to listen to those new songs? Maybe their MySpace? Is the new album due soon? I'm getting curious because even though "Tales Don't Tell Themselves" was clearly a step in the wrong direction, "Memory and Humanity" made it seem like they were on the right track of rediscovering their own sound and "getting their shit straight", so to speak.

@ Flipinthewood: I haven't listend to those 4 new tracks yet, I was referring to everything they've done after "Hours", with the exception of maybe a couple of tracks from their last album. And please don't come with that "evolution" argument. People often mistake "evolution" for "running out of ideas" or "turning mainstream" and other similar stuff. I personally feel that the band got a bit lost after "Hours" and blend themselves into that standard MTV pop rock radio sound that's very common these days, while keeping certain aspects of their own sound, of course. As I said before, I still haven't listened to their new songs, but I honestly hope they're getting back on track. Which, btw, doesn't mean going back to their roots nor doing Casually over and over again, but getting a grip and focusing more on the heavier aspects of their sound, which I honestly think it was what they did best. This is my personal opinion and obviously does not reflect the ultimate truth of things.

It's rare for people to keep the exact same music taste for 7 years, especially if you're a musician. Which is why all good bands never write the same album more than once. FFAF were young back in 02-03, and their music reflected that. It's been awhile. They've obviously changed and matured, and their current music reflects that. They are one of my favorite bands ever, and I love everything they have put out in a different way.

Adding to what some people have said here but also giving another opinoin on things... Lets face it if they made every single album the same as casually dressed it would get a bit tiresome and boring i like how they change through the albums it shows they can do more than one thing which quite alot of bands cant. They are one of those bands that are a million times better live. Its good that they try out/test different sounds. The thing is people will winge no matter what thier never going to please everyone. Im looking forward to the new album i think the new songs on the your history is mine album are great I hope they continue to make great music for many years.

i agree with star-kron... all bands will change and evolve, so they too... wtf are you expecting?... back to the roots? the roots are what? nothing, but their feelings and their doing on stage. i saw them live, and that was the best ever... if you want to change them... back to old stuff... than just listen to old stuff and go with the time and think of yourself

sure, they don't sound like Casually Dressed anymore but they dont sound like one of the other albums anymore either. They do the music that fits their feelings, thoughts and emotions of the time they're making the album. Thats what they always did and ever will do. I think they dont care that much about the expectations of fans, labels or whoever. The only thing that is important for them is to be honest in what they do. Casually Dressed was SIX YEARS! ago and they have grown up but when you see them live, then you realize that they are still the same, awesome band.
