Frank Zappa原名Francis Vincent Zappa Jr.

1940年生于巴尔地摩,是美国六十年代摇滚乐发展史上的先锋人物之一。
1960年出版了第一张唱片，不过是为一部电影做的插曲。随后他又为电影配乐使得他有钱自己买了一间录音棚。
1964年他和与他公事的乐手组成了一支乐队“Mothers”。
1966年乐队推出了双专辑《Freak Out！》。体现了乐队“嬉皮“的风格，也使人们对他们有了更深的印象。再这张专辑中，Zappa在录音方面比同时期的其他乐手到要先进。
1966年出版专辑《Absoulately Free》和1967年出版专辑《We’re only in it for the money》。
1969年Zappa出版了个人专辑《Hot Rats》。这张专辑使他获得了“出色的爵士摇滚音乐家的”的称号。在此后的多张专辑中他尝试了多样的主题和手法，使专辑呈现出不同的特色。
1968年他与他的经理人组建了自己唱片公司，并推出一些亲手提拔的一些乐队。

在此后推出了一些个人专辑如1975年的《Bongo Fury》，1978的《Zappa in New》。

此后，Zappa解除了同公司的合同并建立了自己的公司Zappa。1979年推出了经典作品《Joe’s Garage Act 1》，《Joe’s Garage Act 2，3》。到了八十年代他几乎每年都出一张专辑。并写了一部音乐剧和一部卡通片。

虽然也有失败的地方但他依然被公认为是一位摇滚大师。
1991年Zappa被查处患有癌症，但他依然不停的出专辑直到他1993年12月去世。

    V I've never heard anyone underrating Zappa as a guitarist. O.O Especially when folks tend to know he might've improvised a solo in a gig, then use it and a few others in an album a few years later. :P He was a heck of a guitarist, and not only that, his guitar playing (and overally even composing) was at times like peacing together a puzzle/montage. :) Otherwise you nailed it pretty well. :D

    Well, to me, Frank wasn't a singer. In Frank's own words, he was a commentator, as most of his material and lyrical content focused on social satire and other absurdity, which needed to be spoken, rather than sung. He was also way underrated as a guitar player, but it was only because his other talents overshadowed this particular area of expertise.

    I don't like Frank's singing. He's a funny story-teller (Muffin Man for example), but his vocals aren't as brilliant as his compositions and his fellow musicians. Luckily he didn't sing so much.
