After having listened to Under the Grey Banner, I have to say that Jonas Heidgert is now definitely one of my favourite power metal singers. I found his voice a bit annoying when I discovered Dragonland a few years ago, but he really improved and now I love his vocals very much, especially on the last two albums.

Now that I've listened to Under the Grey Banner a bit more (and most times passively as well) I have to take back my previous mentions of the best and worst songs of the album. It more like feels a complete work without such things as individual tracks. It's like a coherent opera with its repeating theme melodies. Awesome album -- some of the best power metal in years! :) @Believe: Amaranthe is like the worst possible mix of (euro)pop and this Swedish heavy/power metal, so, no. -___- (I know I'm pretty much alone with this opinion, but even their songs are HORRIBLE compared to, say, Abba, E-type, Dragonland or Sabaton. Plus every musician feels like a goddamn stereotype of their respective genres! :P NOTHING unique there except the poor idea to put those 2-4 genres together, and with pretty bad songs and awful overpoduction.)

I'm passively listening to the album, and even through passive listening I'm hearing a LOT of awesome shit I don't hear in lots of power metal bands today. Can't wait to really listen through Under The Grey Banner.

Quite weird that they havn't played a single gig since their new album realase. I guess Olof is just only focussing on Amaranthe...

Under the Grey Banner is absolutely an awesome album! I get chills every time in moments like in the song "Fire and Brimstone" when he sings "...her eyes upon me." + guitar "solo". An image of a movie-like scene comes to mind, in which the moment is seized and their eyes meet. Magical stuff!

@Vggamegod Yeah, more like what you said. They've been hella "big" and "epic" before, just not recently. I think the theatricality and having a good taste while doing it is new and what bites here! :) Great album - should find time and mindset to listen to it again soon! Good you capitalized "TO ME" part in your message, by the way! I sometimes outright forget to explicate an opinion indicator like that (because it doesn't even belong to my language/style/something), and then some wonderful Last FMer comes to say, "IDIOT you cannot state that as A FACT! It's only your OWN OPINION!" "I never meant-" "IDIOT!" "Okay. ;_;". :D

Perhaps they weren't symphonic, but they were epic in songs like World's End (that shit still gives me chillbumps), Ride For Glory, Battle of the Ivory Plains, Majesty of the Mithril Mountains, Thousand Points of Light...etc. Yeah maybe not theatrical, but epic and soaring..something they left behind for a more proggy approach. I enjoy all their albums, but Starfall and Astronomy weren't as enjoyable TO ME as their first two, especially Battle of the Ivory Plains.

More like really discovered it for the first time. This Rhapsody-like "bigness" of the music is new to them as far as I know... I haven't heard every album though, I think. Theatrical but not too much, very good shit! And fitting, grand production and stuff. (And no, I don't stalk this page NOR you even though I just posted this two hours after you. Not me. No sir.)
