Draconian is a Swedish Gothic-Doom metal band formed in 1994 who create songs with atmospheric, melodic and emotive characteristics.
In May of 1994, drummer and vocalist Johan Ericson, bassist and vocalist Jesper Stolpe and guitarist Andy Hindenäs assembled the band Kerberos, initially playing melodic death metal with black metal influences. Seven months later, lead vocalist and lyricist Anders Jacobsson joined the band, and its name changed to Draconian.
Their first demo — Shades of a Lost Moon — was recorded on October, 1995, a week subsequent to their first live concert. The demo counted with flutist and vocalist Jessica Eriksson, keyboardist and vocalist Susanne Arvidsson and with a special participation of Andreas Haag on the introductory section of “My Nemesis”. The album was released on February of 1996. The band was then joined by guitarist Magnus Bergström.
No recording contract was obtained with Shades of a Lost Moon, so in early 1997 the band proceeded to record their second demo, entitled In Glorious Victory. The band, however, became discontented with the quality of the recording and discontinued the release.
In the following months, two members of Draconian had to complete their military service, slowing down the progress of the band. Their rehearsals, however, continued to some degree. Susanne Arvidsson left the band due to personal reasons and was replaced by Andreas Karlsson.

THIS is the only "Gothic" band that doesn't suck,i hate all those female fronted shit. They are of course more Death/Doom than Gothic,and without growling vocals Draconian would be nothing,not because the other band members aren't good,because they would turn into a generic feme shit. Same thing happened to Sirenia,and look now,they have released two shitty albums without any growls. Tristania is still standing will little or no growls,and Morten used to be the lead singer.

Besides, in my opinion Anders is the best growler who ever grabbed a microphone. It's extremely rare that growls are so expressive as his. [3] I love the mix of growl, veeety heavy music and beautiful soprano voice... Magnificent. Great DOOM...!

Errr seriously, who cares if he doesn't like growls? He didn't attack Anders or anything. No need to get that defensive. But I think it's indeed hard to find a band which sounds like Draconian - doom/gothic metal with good melodic guitars and female vocals - with no grunter... There probably are a few in the similar artists, though I think most of the female fronted bands are going to be gothic metal bands. Good luck finding one.
