Their lyrics don't just consist of 'grumpiness', there is some positive and neutral stuff thrown in there as well. So it isn't full blown 'grumpy' haha. I see where you're coming from with that though. My main reason for saying it isn't 'grumpy' music is because their music makes me happy. :D

Infinity is still my favorite Townsend album. You can't go wrong with Bad Devil, War, Life Is All Dynamics, or Ants. Just listen to the whole darn thing. Also, nothing wrong with, as Kustin recommended, checking out his latest stuff. Of course, if you're into heavier and grumpier music like Between the Buried and Me, you might as well get to know him through Strapping Young Lad. Look up City or Alien.

Addicted will do as a whole album for you, while from Ki I'd recommend Coast, Terminal, Heaven Send (or Heaven's End or other misspelled crap), Trainfire and the title track. From Infinity, I like mostly Truth, Christeen, Bad Devil and (only if you're into weird stuff) Ants.

this is why you are a retard. how can you say something as ridiculous as "pop music died with michael jackson". and that video is old, man, seen it many times. but here is the thing. people that wish to make money of music will ensure that a song that is catchy be repeated constantly on radio stations and television. do you actually think the pop artist would go through the process of "how can i make some money? ok, i'll get booked on this tv show, have the radio and tv stations play us this many times etc.." no, they do not have time for this. they are artist. lady gaga is a great example. she is an artist and has so much talent. her songs are abused on the radio and television, but this does not discredit her talent and ability to write really good pop songs. but you just won't understand any of this because you just listen to metal music.

Hm, I'm pretty confused about Meshuggah being in the similar artists. I mean, Meshuggah's brand of music follows a very linear path, in my opinion. I really can't see any similarities between their music other than the fact that both bands/musicians are awesome.

Dude, Ulique, get off it. Nobody cares. The conversation has moved on. Phoenix, I don't think Devin is scared. In an interview he stated that he makes heavy music because that's his favorite kind of music to make. He wants to try all sorts of things, a quiet album, a musical, etc., but in the end, he always plans on building massive, heavy, intense music.

I think Devin is scared that the fans want more heavy stuff so he keeps them on the line by telling he's working on something heavy. I'm sure he won't disappoint us but he shouldn't feel too forced to create a "heavy" album, because most of the Devin fans appreciate good music in general :)

If nothing else, Devin isn't as juvenile and angry as he used to be. So the lyrical and emotional structure of these pieces will be intense and crazy, but not furious. I don't think. That's just my assumption, though. Looking really forward to it. Here's to hoping it's just a few tracks long. Because that would be neat.
