Deathspell Omega are a black metal band from France who have recently been exploring a more avant garde direction.
Their lyrical content deals primarily with Satanism on a metaphysical level, and other various theological topics. They are currently engaged in creating a series of three concept albums, focusing on the theological aspects of God, Satan and man’s relationship with the two. They are commonly regarded as more thorough lyrically and ideologically than most satanic black metal bands.
Initially, Deathspell Omega produced raw, traditional black metal akin to Darkthrone’s Transilvanian Hunger; however, their 2004 release, Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice, marked a change to a more unique and avant garde sound featuring such diverse musical influences as Gregorian Chant and choral music.
They have a cult following amongst the underground scene, mainly due to Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice, which many consider their seminal work. The first chapter in a planned trilogy, the album was released to critical acclaim and continues to be praised.
The band’s work since SMRC has been, if possible, even more avant-garde and progressive, with the five tracks they released in 2005 - on Kénôse and a pair of splits - totalling nearly eighty minutes in length (which, it should be noted, actually exceeds the length of SMRC).

@Cassandra-Leo: well i kicked up google and found 2 websites that still sell it. http://www.van-gbr.de/ and http://www.n-c-u.com/ (link to the shop is in the bottom left). @kangurrr: well you obviously want someone to "explain" it to you so you can just ridicule him, what point is in that? with this kind of shout "Now comes the time when you tell me what I'm missing, and I soon reach black metal enlightenment.", how could you possibly do otherwise?

I'm sure they're working on the third part of the trilogy as we speak, but they're pretty secretive about what they have in progress until it's ready to be unveiled. Incidentally, does anyone know if the S.V.E.S.T. split is ever going to be reissued on vinyl, or was the original print run the only one that's ever going to produced? Given that some of the other DSO stuff has apparently been repressed on vinyl I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the splits go back in print, but I'm curious to know whether the S.V.E.S.T. split was intended to be a one-shot production. I should have ordered the damn thing while I had a chance.
