Death was an influential American death metal band founded in 1983 and dissolved in 1999. Chuck Schuldiner, guitar/vocals, is widely credited as one of the pioneers of the death metal genre. The band’s debut Scream Bloody Gore is considered a genre template. Schuldiner was the only member to remain in the band from start to end.

I'm very influenced (musically) by this band. I've been into Death since 2000. Chuck Schuldiner left a great mark on the heavy metal genre by giving us excellent death metal. He may have or may have not invented death metal, but he was an important part of it. Death was a great band of epic proportions and all of their albums are excellent. Hell, even their demos are excellent! Death By Metal should be a release every single Death listener should have. It is quite an important recording in Death's history. It's really a great demo and I believe it is the best demo of all-time. Scream Bloody Gore is my favorite Death album, because it's so raw and aggressive. It's a superb release, it's so fucking heavy and raw! Everyone should have Scream Bloody Gore. It's a pretty essential release by Death. If you don't have it, please go and get it! I don't care if you download it or steal it. It is a must-have! Go out and get goddamn it!!! Yes and that's that and I used all 1000!!!

For those of you who have not heard of them, check out Decrepit Birth. Their first release is very brutal and has a horrid mastering job but is more in the suffocation type vein. The second release Diminishing Between Worlds is very death influenced but in a much more modern context.
