I think the pose he is doing here is a magickal pose representing the swastika, which can also be formed from the kabbalistic tree of life (by joining the sephiroth, along with many other possible symbols). he does what is almost certainly a magickal gesture in the 'ashes to ashes' video as well. of course the swastika is an ancient symbol and not necessarily associated with the nazis, but I'm afraid during the TWD period he probably did mean it to have far-right associations, in addition to its magickal ('i'm closer to the Golden Dawn...' etc) connotations. IMO Bowie was still into Crowleyan magick up until at least 'Outside', and probably still is, although thankfully has left behind the 'we need a dictator' stuff.

i've always thought i'd kill to be at ziggy stardust concert, but every time i look at photos like this one i think that thin white duke would be even better. what a charisma! [2]
