Dashboard Confessional 始于唱作人兼吉他手Chris Carrabba。1990年代他加入过一些佛罗里达当地的朋克乐队。2000年Dashboard Confessional与小厂牌Fiddler签约并发行了一张EP，‘The Drowning’，接下来又发行了专辑‘Swiss Army Romance’，后来Drive Thru Records又重发此专辑，此后Carrabba转投Vagrant Records。2001年Dashboard Confessional的第二张专辑’The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most’中的歌曲’Screaming Infidelities’进入the US Top 30 Modern Rock Hit。
前Sunny Day Real Estate乐队的吉他手兼歌手Dan Hoerner出现在EP ‘So Impossible’中，从此乐队成为二人组合。2002年他们发行了另一张EP ‘the Summer’s Kiss’，其中包括了第一张专辑中重新录音的4首歌曲。2003年Dashboard Confessional迎来了商业上的成功，第三张专辑 ‘A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar’ 冲到the US charts排行榜第二的位置，其中的歌曲’Hands Down’也进入了the Top 10 Modern Rock hit。
