Saw them last sunday at the Glasgow SECC, this song was the stand out part of the whole gig. He gave a reason why he wrote this song and said that heartache wasn't the painful part of a relationship split. It's simply not being able to say goodnight to someone at the end of the day.

Love this song. "I'll wait for you in Baton Rouge, I'll miss you down in New Orleans." It expresses so keenly how the speaker misses an old lover even as he's with someone new. "If you're the queen of California, baby, I'm the king of the rain." That line kills me every time. Why it wasn't included in "Films about Ghosts" is a mystery to me.

RtS was the first album i bought from CC. this song has reached my favorite. i could listen to this song pretty much for hours and still not get sick of it. Adams lyrics hit home with me too. to this day i still say that RtS is the best album from CC. its hard... not too hard. its emotional, its sad, and yet still says there is hope. Goodnight Elisabeth is probably one of the most under rated songs and how the song came about is sad on its own.

The opening is brilliant.......I was wasted in the afternoon waiting on a train. And quite possibly maybe that train goes absolutely nowhere. Adam's lyrics were always so sad but at the same time always made the most sense to me. This band truly got me through my darker days.
