Why not? "Progressive" doesn't mean instrumental talent, solos, and poor songwriting. This is different, and pushing boundaries, so I think it's much more progressive than Dream Theater. Not to many albums like Graveyard Mountain Home, Black Clouds and Silver Linings had been done 100 times before

Hey, @Tibberclaw, about the "He needs to get together with Steven Wilson and do some OSI-like blending of styles", yeah sure, or maybe he just needs to do his own thing here.... First time i am listening to Chroma Key (since i recently became a big OSI fan) and first impressions are really good!

If someone gave me all 3 CK albums and made me guess the order they were released, I'd probably think it was the reverse of their actual order. Really like "Undertow", "Get Back In The Car", "Nice To Know", and "When You Drive" Can't believe this guy came from Dream Theater. I'm glad he left though. He needs to get together with Steven Wilson and do some OSI-like blending of styles.

Just because someone is doing something "new" with their sound doesn't make it progressive and progressive doesn't always have to be incredibly technical, either. I'd say this sounds like Electronica with a more atmospheric approach. So many people have this tagged as prog because Moore came from a Progressive metal band, so everyone automatically assumes that it's a prog project.

In most of the CK reviews I've read the reviewer has had difficulty classifying the music. I guess it's progressive in the sense it's doing something new and different, not because it's incredibly technical. But to give CK the same label as, say, Genesis, seems wrong. At the end of the day, the label we give the music doesn't really matter.
