Bon Iver是美国独立民谣歌手/作曲家Justin Vernon最近所创立的团名以及他到目前为止最受人注目的计划之一，有许多人会以为Bon Iver就是Justin Vernon的艺名，其实不然，这是一个团名。而Bon Iver现在也包含了Mike Noyce和Sean Carey两名团员

Bon Iver这名字是取自于法文bon hiver的谐音，意思是美好的冬天，而团名也揭露出了该团音乐的性质，静谧寒冷又哀伤。首脑Justin Vernon在2008年独立发行了Bon Iver乐团首张专辑，For Emma, Forever Ago，大部分的歌都是在Justin Vernon居住在威斯康辛州的深山独自居住三个月时所录下来的。
当处于高中以及大学时段之时，Justin Vernon成立了Mount Vernon和DeYarmond Edison乐团，两个都是独立摇滚乐团，并且都成立于威斯康辛州的奥克莱尔城。Justin Vernon到现在都还住在那里。DeYarmond Edison的成员有Justin Vernon、Brad ＆ Phil Cook以及Joe Westerlund。

在奥克莱尔一段长时间的成功打拼之后，四名成员决定离开他们的家乡并且去北卡罗莱纳洲的Raleigh去新的地方试试他们的身手。

那时候乐团自己发行了两张专辑，第一张以及第二张名为Silent Signs以及没有发行的EP现在都可以在他们的Myspace上听到

在将近待了一年之后，Justin Vernon因为跟乐团失和以及与女朋友分手而离开了威斯康辛州。其余DeYarmond Edison的团员组成了新的乐团Megafaun并且与Justin Vernon继续保持友谊。

与乐团失和并且与女友分手，关系交恶，并且得到了肝脏疾病的Justin Vernon离开了Raleigh并且搬回威斯康辛州北部一个森林小屋里，那是他父亲的小木屋，他总共花了三个月的时间独自居住生活在那里。

根据Justin Vernon的说法，这三个月的森林隐居就是Bon Iver这个名字第一次浮现在他脑中的时候。

当他因为肝脏的病痛问题卧病不起时，他为了打发时间开始观赏电视系列剧 Northern Exposure的DVD。有一集里面，描述著一群这在阿拉斯加的居民，遭到冬天雪难的攻击，并且最后希望下一个冬天是一个”bon hiver”（法文美好的冬天的意思）

一开始Justin Vernon是把它抄成了boniverre。不过，当他学到了正确的法文拼法之后，他决定不要用bon hiver这个正确的名字，因为hiver这个字让他不禁想起了liver(肝，他的肝有问题）。

原本Justin Vernon是没有打算要在这段时间去写歌或者是录音，他宁愿花时间休息来从这段时间发生的事情恢复心情。不过最后他还是在这段独居的日子里开始了录音。然后最后，推出了令众人激赏的专辑，For Emma, Forever Ago。

他帮忙乐团The Rosebuds完成了一些录音的工作之后，就拿了些基本的录音工具回到了他的小屋。Justin Vernon在录音的期间负责配上所有的乐器，并且每首歌都对母带做了大量的编辑后制处理。 Justin Vernon在录制没有歌词的旋律时才写下了大部分的歌词，并且会听上好几遍，根据旋律的音节来写出适当的歌词。

    Stormandstatis is mostly right. It's the movie and all the damn books(my wife has read them all - about 5 times each, no lie) that are half assed. It's a massive pop culture revolution for women of all ages all over the damn world. I'm a "New Moon widower", lol! She's seen both movies twice. I guess they're ok. I downloaded the soundtracks for her and found out about Bon Iver that way and then all the other cool bands Bon Iver(Justin Vernon) is connected to- like Volcano Choir and plus Justin Vernon's solo stuff and some of his other projects. So in that sense I'm glad they were on the soundtrack to one of the worst soap opera vampire/werewolf movies ever conceptualized. But like I said, I'm a New Moon widower and so I have to say that the sountrack is the best part of the movie! ; ) Team, Jacob, Team Edward - YAWN! Anyway, I think Octbaby is really defending the movie itself while Stormandstatic is dissing it via the soundtrack.He must be a New Moon widower too!

    i really don't understand why 'some' ppl are so wired up about the soundtrack. who cares! they are a lot of great artists out in the world who deserve to be reconized ... being on a soundtrack with this type of magnitude is a dream for any indie musician. more ppl will buy the albums and go to the shows, which mean more money in their pockets. so stop your petty whining ... bon iver isn't just your precious little gift to keep bundled up.
