Interesting it is, I think, that in the wake of Gerry Rafferty's death January 4th, I've spent more time thinking about a guy getting his ear sliced off in a famously ultraviolent indie film than I have thinking about the deceased artist in question.

Maybe it's just mine own reaction, and if so, let's just forget the whole thing, and I'll see you on Tuesday or so. But it doesn't seem fair to me, on consideration, doesn't seem fitting.

Gerry Rafferty was no Captain Beefheart, no revolutionary, no great influence to anyone, really. The relevant stage of his career as an inoffensive soft-rocker lasted a decade, or actually a little less, and he seems to have spent the last 15 years of his life drinking himself to death.

You know it's once in an era you can come across an album that's so.... perfect??... that words fail you and you sit and become obsessed with it and listen to it on repeat time after time – tracks pop up and the lyrics underpin a life experience, a mood, an attitude – as if life is like some sort of cosmic jukebox, God is the DJ, and all you gotta do is dance the dance?

April March's Triggers is one such album.

Coming after the terrific Chromanance Decoder album, both produced by French genius Bertrand Bugalat, it's like following the Beatles from Rubber Soul to Revolver, or Brian Wilson from Today... to Petsounds.

Chromanace is a strong, delightful album with many perks that bear repeat listens, but it is on Triggers that the pair hit their stride – two bright stars collide and cover the whole thing in magic music dust, from beginning to end. The two parts blend into something so “other” that it is seamless (and pointless to compare). The production values are so much more stronger too.

Saw them support Turisas back in 2007, and despite Chris being visibly terrified, they were wonderful.

Come What(ever) May - a mate sent it to me, and I hunted the album down next time I was in HMV.

Since my tastes (and, mainly, the order of the artists) changed a bit since the first time I did it, I'm going to redo it. It will be funny both doing it and comparing results with the old one! And, no, I feel no shame to change tastes so easily. I'm always up to changes if I want to do so!

下村陽子 (Yoko Shimomura) - She does the soundtrack for the game Legend of Mana, from the Seiken Densetsu series, and I felt in love with it from the first time I played it. The game is totally amazing, and so is the soundtrack!

Changin' My Life - No one at all. I don't like them that much anymore, so I don't plan on buying anything neither.
