安东·冯·韦伯恩（Anton von Webern，1883年12月3日－1945年9月15日）：奥地利作曲家，新维也纳乐派代表人物之一。韦伯恩1883年12月3日出生于维也纳，1902年入维也纳大学学习音乐学，1904年起师从于勋伯格，与勋伯格、贝尔格组成新维也纳乐派（或称第二维也纳乐派）。纳粹占领奥地利期间，因受纳粹迫害(希特勒明令禁止演出第二维也纳乐派的音乐)，不得不过隐居生活。1945年前往萨尔茨堡看望女儿、女婿，在宵禁、灯火管制时于户外吸烟，被一美国士兵误杀（该士兵在战后因懊悔而酗酒，于1955年身亡）。

The performances on the 6CD Complete Webern Box are decent but in my opinion Boulez's new style, which is, one could say, calm and steady, doesn't have the fire some of the pieces need. The second movement of the six pieces for orchestra, opus 6, is a very good example. Compare Boulez's performance to, for example, Claudio Abbaddo's! And the string orchestra version of opus 5, particularly the first movement, is a fiasko compared to a version on Lucerne Strings festival "Dialogue Schubert-Webern" -CD. Though I can't deny that Boulez's interpretions are interesting - he doesn't always do them in the usual way. It is interesting to listen to Webern conducting Berg's Violin Concerto and to find out that Webern did not get slower during the years - as Boulez seems to if you compare his earlier Webern-recordings to these newer. The opening of the second movement of the Berg's concerto is explosive in Webern's hands!
