you can't really compare any of those other "folk chanteuses" to Annie, because.....they pretty much all wanted to BE like her -or greatly admired her, at least- as she was this untamable free spirit who lived like the songs she sang about..

mozzmozz sadly there was so much folk creativity in the late 60s that her pure voice did not get heard enough, and her quiet retiring nature - like Nick Drake's - prevented her from becoming more widely known at the time.

birdsnplums I cannot get used to her voice yet, I don't like it very much. But it will come. When I first heard Vashti Bunyan I also thought that I hate her voice, and now that she is one of my favourite musicians I say: What was I thinking?!
