Guys, come to Poland. This time without prog dinosaurs. Is there any way of helping in making that gig happen ? [3] I'd do anything for this.

I've always had trouble getting into these guys. Working my way through Disk 1 of The Octopus and I'm really enjoying it. Very Pink Floydian in places!

Everyone's got a right to their opinion, but Dream Theater fans annoy me. Amplifier are a speck on their giant, overblown asses. Leave em alone.

Ok. That's your point. I didn't see them so I can't talk about it. From what I've heard on YT, they always did great job on their shows. But whatever. Peace&love everybody :)

OK, you're all right, it wasn't fair from me, judging band after one concert, but try to see my point. I see on a stage band I've never heard before, I can't hear almost anything but noise (BAD acoustic - any drunk, homeless guy from a street could be better acoustic specialist for them), so what can I say? If technicians screw their job, even best band can do nothing. No matter for a reason, I didn't hear anything progressive (in common sense) from Amplifier at 28.07.2011 in Spodek.

inhumat0r, sorry, but if you say that this band has nothing to do with progressive music(as you've said before), after one concert, after you haven't even heard ANYTHING else by them (as you mentioned in your latest post), then you are mocking the band already. You judge them after one show, that's not really fair... Because someone who says to me that this band isn't progressive at all, after one experience is a total ignorant. If you tell me that The Octopus is not progressive, you must be kicked in the face. Oh, I forgot! You haven't even listened to The Octopus so how can you know...

"Good god, that interview made me laugh hard. "Are you for or against piss in the world?" "Against piss?!" Thanks for it, it made my day :D " -> mine too, so I needed to share it here:)

Confu: I agree, I don't know music created by Amplifier. I just say that Amplifier didn't put any effort to play well on DT concert. Further more, it could not be their fault, however they would try little harder, don't you think? I listen to much more music than you can see in last.fm chart, and far, far longer than last.fm exist. You name every innovative music as progressive? So do that with Sigur Rós, for example. Second thing, I do not mock of Amplifier, just say that their show in Spodek was... weak. It is NOT judgement of whole band, as you seem to think. Regards:)

...that I have heard in the past few years. Next point: Do you think I only listen to music on my PC? Also, if you go by last.fm, you might have noticed that I have reset my charts last year. So please, YOU spend some time listening to a band before you go around and mock 'em on their last.fm shoutbox. You ought to have respect for Amplifier for what they did, especially with The Octopus, producing it all on their own. You can read that story up anywhere on the internet. And if that all is not enough to prove you wrong: babyblaue-seiten.de is a progressive rock encyclopedia with lots of reviews. Guess who's in there? Amplifier. Guess how they rated The Octopus? 13/15. And they are completely right, it's a masterpiece. You won't find your precious high speed guitar solo in there, but you will find that the songwriting is a stroke of genius and that they put their blood, sweat and tears into that album.

Spinning around themselves and looking cool? Sure! Why not? All your fancy power/progressive metal stuff is full of bands who are the GODS of posing. In comparison to that, Amplifier are harmless. And even if, what's the problem with a band enjoying themselves on stage? Second: You completely missed my point. I know the common definition of progressive rock/metal very well, however, I was aiming at the original meaning of the word, which means that you create something that is new and innovative. When Dream Theater started out, the pioneered the genre - they were progressive. Today, they are just repeating their same old stuff with a few slight modern rock influences. That doesn't mean it's bad, but it's NOT progressive in the original sense. In this respect, Amplifier are much more progressive than Dream Theater ATM. And even if you go by your definition, you appearently haven't heard a lot of Amplifier. The Octopus is a two cd concept album with some of the best songwriting

such a f*&kin shame I haven't been able to catch them with DT in Poland, anyone seen it ?

In Poland Amplifier put much more effort in spinning around themselfs and looking cool than playing. "Progressive metal (...) is a subgenre of heavy metal, which blends the powerful, guitar-driven sound of metal with the complex compositional structures, odd time signatures, and intricate instrumental playing of progressive rock." Where can I hear complex compositional structures in Amplifier music? Please, tell me, I'm very curious. Besides, can you tell me where you heard "10 minute unisono guitar keyboard solo" in, for example, On the Virg, Cynic or Planet X? Apparently it's your opinion, not mine.

To be honest, Amplifier is about 10 times more progressive than Dream Theater. Maybe they could be considered progressive when what they did was actually fresh and new (Images and Words etc.), but nowadays? They are only repeating themselves, while with The Octopus, Amplifier created something unique, new and complex, and that's what progressive music was always about, from the 70s to today. But looking at your charts, you probably think the only characteristic that decides about what is progressive or not is if there's a 10 minute unisono guitar keyboard solo in it or not.

I agree. Eternity is wonderful and shows another side of Amplifier's music. Especially Departure Lounge and Number One Son are magnificent.

Eternity is really worth hearing, for everyone who hasn't checked it out yet. Lots of different styles going on there, each song is an instant classic. See "My Corrosion," "Area 51" and "Departure Lounge."
