Amethystium乐队建于1998年的夏天，其灵魂人物是Oystein Ramfjord。在1999年和2000年发行了一些试音小样之后，它的首张官方专集《Odonata 蜻蜓/秋之翔协奏曲》于2001年8月14日在美国首次发行，之后又紧接着在日本发行。该专集很快在同一类型的Billboard排行榜中越升至第10位，2003年1月28日发行的第二张专集《Aphelion 远日点》也获得了同样的好成绩。第二张专集完全延续了第一张专集的音乐风格。继前两张专辑的巨大成功后，乐队又于2004年10月5日发行了第三张专辑《Evermind 迷醉》。
Amethystium的音乐风格是新世纪音乐、冥想乐及电子乐的综合。基本上其音域范围跨越了从冥想舒缓类到节奏明快充满激情，但有时又有些抑郁色彩的类别。
