Instructions: The following is a list of the bands of the genre's i like. (Not nessesarily what i like) All have myspaces. Under each band, will be a list of the top 2-7 bands that I know you will like if you like the band named. I don't recomend Slipknot, System Of a Down, Avenged Sevonfold Godsmack or Sevendust. But they will be included anyway. This is still a concept but, I trust this will work pretty well. Feel free to make suggestions and add bands!
Example:
Band a -- Genre
My Top 5: Band c, Band d, band g, band 8. Band q
To Navigate to the band you want, use "Control + F" the find comand and type in the band you want. If they are alternative or metal i'll probably have em listed.
1-9:
3 Doors Down– Alternative Rock
The Best Wanna-be-metal band Ever. Now when I refer to 3 doors down, im not talking about Here without you and When im gone. I'm talking about their good shit, the stuff you don't know about and you think you do. These guys are actually really damn good. They have a lot of metal influences and their songs can be pretty gothic such as seen in Changes and This time. Were thinking of the Same 3 doors down here. Believe me. Listen to their Album Away from the sunset. So good yo.
My Top 5: 12 Stones, Stone Sour, Spiralarms, Puddle Of Mudd, Alter Bridge
3rd Strike – Alternative Rock/Metal/Metal Rap
Heard of these guys a few years ago. Typical Metal rap band, except they have great quality to their music and an excilent lead vocalist. They do a lot of Pantera Covers, and have some really great classic style metal rifts in their songs. They are pretty hip. Listen to their song "No Light"
My Top 5: Evans Blue, Nonpoint, A perfect circle, Machine Head, Ill Nino
40 Below Summer & Black Market Hero – Metal/Industrial
40 Below Summer, Now Black Market Hero is the Origonal Breaking Benjamin. These guys mastered the sound way before Benjamin came out with their first album. 40 below summer however isn't nearly the sell out mainstream band that BB is. These guys are true metalheads. Now let me tell you, the lead singer CAN scream, But he chooses not to. Instead he's developed his own sort of … how would you define it, Yell/speak/scream singing style. Its really unique. These guys have great alternative songs with a lot of darker industrial influences. These guys are So great. Listen to their song "Monday Song" and if you like heavier stuff, listen to "We The People"
My Top 5: Breaking Benjamin, Dry Kill Logic, Element Eighty, Endo Scars of Life, Godhead
A:
A Perfect Circle – Alternative/Punk Rock/Industrial
With Tool's lead singer, these guys were almost guaranteed to be a success… and they were. Their Song "The outsider" has to be one of the most original and amazing songs of the century. It combines tool with modern alternative and punk to create pure genius. Of the two bands, I prefer A perfect circle because of their shorter songs. These guys are kickass, although their other songs are a lot different than the outsider. These guys are definitely mainstream. They are some whacky guys.
My Top 5: Evans Blue, Waking, Tool, 3rd Strike, Slant, Vertical Horizon
Adema – Nu-metal/Industrial rock/Hard rock
Adema was my first true favorite band. These guys got me into all the music I listen to today and without them I wouldn't even be a songwriter. These guys are so unique… now everyone sounds like them but man, when they first came out… wow. There wasn't one bad song on their album. These guys will last forever. Very dark and depressing sound I must say. A little like Korn but more so like Spineshank. Last year the lead singer left the band and join a new band called Midnight Logic. They are pretty good but a little to mainstream for my likings. Fear not though. Adema is still around and their new lead singer is also excellent. The band has taken a new direction and have lost their dark and gothic sound. But in many ways this is good. Original Adema, although excellent had very uncolorful songs. You could only listen to them a certain number of times before you felt dehydrated. New Adema is an Alternative band with industrial influences. The instrumentation is different, the quality is different, but they still in some ways sound like adema. They are great. Both old and New. Adema Forever.
My Top 5: Bittersweet, Spineshank, Dry Cell, Orgy, Scars of Life, Blindside, Taproot
Agonised by Love -- Gothic Electronica/Techno
I don't know anything about these guys. Only have one song by em, "Silent War"
My Top 5: Colony 5, Pride & Fall, Bella Morte, Razed In Black, Covenant
Alice in Chains – Post Grunge/Alternative
If you don't know who Alice In Chains is, you're a fucking tard. These guys, along with STP and SoundGarden and Nirvana invented modern Alternative and metal music. Alice in chains is a freaking legend. They've got over a hundred songs and in my opinion are far better than nirvana or STP. Their lead singer is one of a kind. He's got a extremely nasel droning voice. But it works. It fits perfectly for their very grungy alternative sound. He uses his voice as an instrument to go along with the guitar in many of his songs giving Alice In chains a mild eastern feel.
My Top 5: Soundgarden, Porcupine Tree, Speak No Evil, Dust To Dust, STP
Allele – Alternative/Rock
Unoriginal… Breaking benjamin rip off. So obviously… they are good to. Only have one song by them which is excellent, its called "Lost In your words" It… really REALLY sounds like Breaking Benjamin.
My Top 5: Depswa, Submersed, Breaking Benjamin, Faktion, Ziel, Dredg, Slant, Egypt central, 40 below summer
Audiovent -- Alternative/Rock
I don't know anything about these guys. Only have one song by them, "The Energy" So I'll speak about the one song instead. The energy has got to be one of the best alternative songs of the century. Its So godamn incredible. And whether you like Pop, punk, opera, metal or death metal, you'll like it. Go get it. Now.
My Top 5: Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver, Our Lady Peace, Blindside, Irrational, Saliva
Audioslave - Alternative/Hard Rock
Chris Cornell, Singer of legendary innovative Post-Grunge band Soundgarden has recently returned to form Audioslave, a band with an amazing vocalist, and terrible songs. They are a one hit wonder, with "Like a Stone" yet somehow managed to put out a second album. Don't ask me how. But if you're an avid fan of Soundgarden or any of the classic 90's bands… buy Like a Stone right away. The song is so original and has so many influences from the great 90's legends. Its really, an amazing amazing song.
My Top 5: Soundgarden, Shinedown, Alice In Chains, Puddle Of Mudd, STP
Ambulette – Gothic/Pianist
I found Ambulette when I went to a Dredg concert with my pal Coady. They were the opening band. The band is run by the former singer of Denali, a beautiful girl with an amazing voice. At the concert, something sounded very off. Her singing was completely off key. She didn't hit one right note. However… I also noticed that it wasn't possible to be this off on all your own songs an soon discovered that her songs were just… off… Its so freaking awesome, this girl is so gothic. Their songs have a lot of Lacuna Coil style melodies presented in a very light pianist way. They are cool. And Man… Their lead singer is SO Hot. SO hot x.x Listening to their album, it sounded a lot less off-key by the way. Dunno what the hell the problem was, probably the acoustics at the concert. I knew it wasn't possible to be so terribly off. She was so off she was on… Don't ask.
My Top 5: Tori Amos, Darling Violetta, Imogen Heap, Denali, Flyleaf, Jem
American Head Charge - Nu-Metal/Metal
My Top 8: Twisted method, Primer 55, Twin Method, Erase The Grey, Five Finger Death Punch, Demon Hunter, Nothingface, Dry Kill Logic.
And One – Industrial/EBM
This is a German Industrial Band. Also, one of the most popular Industrial bands in all of Germany. They have a discography practically as large as Alice in chains. Their lead singer has a really deep voice, and the coolest accent ever. He speaks really good English. For all you ladies out there, his voice is quite sexy. Lol. Their music has a lot of gothic undertones and occasionally some undead-circus-music in it. I love these guys. They are really cool. Up there with Colony 5 on my all time favorite Techno bands ever.
My Top 5: Agonized by Love, Colony 5, Shiny Toy Guns, Bella Morte, The Bravery
A.R Rahman – World/Classical
Rahman is the artist that composes all the big hits in bollywood as well as many asian films. You've probably heard his scoring before. His music is ethnic and very oriental with lots of unique instruments and beautiful sounds. He does a lot of Collaberation word with Hindu singers creating a very "Desert Rose" effect. This guy is freaking awesome. I personally am in love with eastern music, and this guy brings the best of the best. He's really cool to, he does a lot of work with Alternative bands like Kalpana. My personal favorite song by Rahman is called…"Oohhaah" isn't that the funniest name? Its… an amazing song. Check it out right away.
My Top 2: Kalpana, Mahathi, Sting
Avenged Sevenfold – Speed Metal/ Metal/ Punk rock
Avenged Sevenfold successfully bridges two genres together that for the past decade have been trying to come together. Those Genre's are Classic Punk and Classic Metal. The result is a fast paced death metal sounding punk. These guys are very similar to Thrice which attempted to do this merger before Sevenfold. Personally, I am a fan of thrice as they are less punk, but anyone who listens to punk and wants to start listening to metal, this is the first band you should check out.
My Top 5: Thrice, Dear Damien, Element Eighty, The Birthday Massacre
Ayria - Industrial
My Tops: Nocturne, Chiasm, Freezepop, I:Scintilla
B:
B.C. – Progressive Alternative Rock
B.C cannot be defined as progressive and alternative, but only a combination of the two. Their songs, starting off with Soft and ambient vocals steadily build up into a modern heavy alternative chorus. This allows for their music to be broader and potentially more melodic.
My Top 5: Porcupine Tree, Live, Soundgarden, Speak No Evil, Sloth, Breaking Point
Billy Corgan – Electronica/ Techno/ Ambient
Ex Smashing Pumpkin Vocalist branches out with his own band many years after the breakup of the pumpkins. He decides to take his new solo project a more techno root. Keeping the mainstream choruses of the pumpkins the new Billy Corgan is a great addition to the techno genre scoring many singles so early in the bands career. His songs are repetitive and catchy, just the way electronica should be.
My Top 5: Smashing Pumpkins, Bella Morte, Razed In Black, Thom Yorke, Utada Hikaru , Godhead
Blackfield – Progressive Rock/ Soft Rock
My top 3: Porcupine Tree, Radiohead, Live, Cities, Sanctus Real
Black Label Society – Speed Metal/Metal

Depswa
My Top 5: Submersed, Allele, Faktion, Blindside, (New) Adema, Ra, Dredg
Dilemma (My band) – Industrial rock /Metal/Alternative
Heavily inspired by the music he loves, Alex Weinstock has devoted himself to creating a band just like the ones he loves but decides to take it one step farther. Bittersweet is a combination band but combines different artists sounds with each song.
My Tops: Adema, Irrational, Taproot, Chevelle, 40 Below Summer, Cold, Soil, Systematic, Blindside, Spineshank
Dimmu Borgir - Black Metal
My top 2: The Kovenant, Ram-Zet, Deathstars, Rammstein, Eisbrecher
Disturbed - Nu-Metal/Hard rock

Dry Cell - Nu-metal
My Top 5: Scars of Life, Dope, Orgy, Adema, Spineshank, Taproot, Blindside, Sloth, Disturbed, Smile Empty Soul
Dry Kill Logic - Nu-metal/Metal
Dry kill Logic sounds like a combination of everyone from Taproot to Trivium, from breaking Benjamin to Shadows fall. These guys are truly awesome. I recommend Nothingface, Element eighty, Trivium, American Head Chagre, Mushroomhead, Twin Method, Twisted Method, Static-X and Crossbread
Dust to Dust(Black Water Rising)- Post Grunge/Hard Rock
My Top 5: Speak No Evil, The Union Underground, Systematic, Soil, Porcupine Tree

F:
Filter - Progressive/Hard Rock
My Top 3: Audiovent, 12 Stones, Stone sour, Army of anyone
Flaw/
Five Bolt Main - Hard Rock
Nobody sound like these guys, they are one of a kind. If you like Flaw, I recommend their new band Five bolt Main, and vice versa if you like Five Bolt. Umm… You might like Ra. Yeah, check out Ra.
Fingertight - Alternative Rock
My top 6: Lennex, Depswa, Submersed, Sinch, Smile Empty Soul, Manmade God
Five Finger Death Punch - Death Metal/Nu-Metal
My Top 5: Devil Driver, Demon Hunter, Twisted Method, Twin Method, Primer 55, American Head Charge

G:
Godhead(Favorite Band) -11/19/06-
My Top 5: Marylin Manson, Dust To Dust, (Older) Cold, Taproot, The Kovenant, HiM, Orgy
Godsmack – Alternative/Metal
Godsmack has an excellent lead vocalist, and some really cool easternly influenced songs. Their music is good quality and well played. Their songs however lack feeling and style. I don't feel that this band truelly has a style of their own, even with their eastern influence. And I personally just don't like them. There are however a few songs by them that should not go unnoticed by any Alternative or metal fan. These songs are excellent. They are, "Awake", "I Stand Alone", "Serenity" and "Moon Baby"
My Top 5: Speak No Evil, The Tea Party, Ra, Dust To Dust, Sevendust, Saliva
H:
Helayln Flowers - Industrial
Check this Italian Techno band out. You can't understand a word she's saying but that's okay cause she's really hot. These guys are really gothic and sound a lot like Lacuna coil. Check em out bitchesss.
H.I.M (His Infernal Majesty) – Gothic Rock/Alternative/ambiant/Pop-rock
These guys have had a great career. Girls drop dead at their singers feet. They've produced tons of singles and have created a truly unique sound that is very inspiring, even to me. His voice is very deep, yet very soft at the same time. His songs are mainstream yet have very gothic/ harmonic minor melodies. A lot of his songs are pretty heavy to, and use a really distinct distorted guitar. Good band.
My Top 5: Lacuna Coil, Godhead, Bittersweet, Irrational, Five Bolt Main, Ambulette, Muse
Hurt – Progressive Rock/Alternative
Hurt sound exactly like Live however their song writing isn't as good. I only like 1 or two songs by these guys and they are, their single, "Rapture" and an excellent, industrial sounding song called "Forever" which sounds strangely like A Perfect Circle.
My Top 5: Live, Porcupine Tree, Thornley, Velvet Revolver, Seether
I:
Information Society - Synthpop
My Top 5: Shiny Toy Guns, GDX, The Beloved Tre Lux, Colony 5
In Flames – Death Metal
In Flames is Pretty much exactly like Trivium. His voice is a bit less melodic but he still manages to use it for both creepy speaking, screaming and melody. These guys have been around a while. They've got some pretty heavy stuff… most of it is to heavy for me. But their new Album, Come Clarity is really great. The quality… you have to get used to it, but the songs are REALLY catchy. Especially for death metal. And even if your not a fan of all the screaming, there are still a lot of songs on the album you can like.
My Top 4: Trivium, Shadows Fall, Ram-Zet, Dry Kill Logic, Static-X
Imogen Heap – synthpop/Electropop/Piano pop
This gal is pretty mainstream, however they are presented in a very unique, techno/pianist way. Usually I'm not a fan of more uptempo happier music, but her's is really catchy actually. All my friends who like gothic rock like her. So, check her out.
My Top 5: Jem, Ambulette, Shiny Toy Guns, Chiasm, Denali
Incubus – Incubus
My top 2: Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Mindless Self Indulgence, Dredg, System of a Down
I:Scintilla - Industrial/Gothic/Hard Rock
My Tops: Ayria, Nocturne, Porcelain and the Tramps, Irrational, Ghost Orgy, Aural vampire
Irrational – Industrial/Technometal/Alternative Rock
You guys probably haven't heard of Irrational. They are native Californian band with a great ear for technology. These guys play hard rock industrial music and bring back in the old school DJ scratches and Linkin park style effects to their music. However, unlike a lot of bands these guys truly have a sound of their own. Its almost gothic, but you'd have to hear it yourself. If you like Adema, Dry cell, Orgy, Blindside, Scars of Life, Dry Kill Logic, Smile empty soul, or anything like those guys, you should DEFFINATLY check out Irrational. These guys rule.
J:
Jem -- Pianist/Rock
Jem was featured in two movie soundtracks, Closer and Ultraviolet with their two singles, "Come on Closer" and "24". So if you remember these two songs from movie commercials and like them, check out Jem.
My Top 4: Imogen Heap, Ambulette, Chiasm, Denali
Killradio – Alternative/ Grunge Metal, Punk
These guys have a lot of attitude and aren't afraid to speak their minds. The lead singer has a very unique, almost immediately recognizable voice that really cuts through. I like these guys a lot. They are very similar to Papa Roach
My Top 4: Papa Roach, Rise Against, The Offspring, Marylin Manson, Manmade God
Kittie -- Metal
Kittie is a chick band that's about as hard core as any band could get. They've got an extremely gothic sound and a great quality to their productions. Kittie is unique; they aren't Death Metal, but are actually quite similar to bands like Mudvayne and Nothingface who are kind of in-between. So if your afraid they'll be to heavy for you, give them a try. They are pretty much mudvayne with a female singer.
My top 3: Ram-Zet, Lacuna Coil, Ghost Orgy, Dry Kill Logic, Element Eighty, Static-X
Korn – Industrial Rock/Synth Rock/Nu-Metal
Korn is funny they have a discography of over 150 songs. And… only 12 good ones. Such a stupid funny band. Their 12 songs are original, unique, and amasing. But those other ones. Oooh man, they are AWFUL. Some of the worst crap ever. Man… just get their singles album.
My Top 5: Taproot, Dry Cell, Spineshank, Orgy, Irrational, Godhead, Razed In black , Static-x
Lacuna Coil – Symphonic Gothic Metal/Rock
Lacuna Coil is a gothic rock legend. They are THE gothic rock band. Although there a couple of similar bands such as evanescence, no one captures the same esoteric and atmospheric sound that Lacuna Coil has created. With both a male and female vocalist, the band uses voice as an instrument. They know when each is necessary and often overlap each other to create a cool, creepy effect. The band has it also, Cello, Viola, synth, ugh. Great band. Check them out. This band will get you into so many other great bands.
My Top 5: Ram-Zet, Godhead, H.I.M, Ambulette, Ghost Orgy, Flyleaf, Evanescence, Kittie, Muse
Live – Post Grunge/ 90's Alternative
This guy has a really unique voice and brings and brought a whole new style to Alternative and Progressive Rock. The lead singer of the New Band hurt strangely sound a lot like him. But Hurt is the only exception.
My top 4: Soundgarden, Porcupine Tree, Hurt, Alice In Chains, Dream Theature
Lo-Pro (Favorite Band) -5/20/05- -- Alternative Rock
Lo*Pro is currently working on their sohpmore album. It's been taking them a really long time because it's near virtually impossible to top their first. The first album not only had amazing, extremely original songs, but the quality and artistry was absolutely incomparable, especially for a bands first album. These guys have the most unbelievable Vocal Effects, and it is on every single one of their songs. Which makes them all sort of sound the same… but that's good, because we love their sound so much.
My Top Recomendations: Sinch, Breaking Point, Seether, Porcupine Tree, Alter Bridge, 3 Doors Down, Live, Hurt, Dredg, FLOW, Thornley
Machine Head – Alternative, Metal, Machinehead
These guys have been around for a while now but their sound is still totally new and innovative. With a similar sound to Metallica these guys add in a whole new thing. Metal Rap. Its not like rap rap at all, its got its own style. A way of speak singing to a heavy guitar. Really cool. If you haven't heard them before I'd start with their song "From This Day". These guys have a large discography, they've been rocking since the early 90's.
My top Recomendations: Mushroomhead, 3rd Strike, Dope, Ill Nino, Metallica, Papa Roach, Dry Cell, Alice In Chains
Madside – Grunge Metal/ Alternative
These guys don't have their own sound and are pretty unoriginal while I'm at it. But they sound like everyone else who's good so, hey. Not complaining. I only know two of their songs, Enemy and Never Enough. Both really good. Check em out if you like Papa Roach or Rise against. They are very Grungy.
My Top 2: Papa Roach, Slant, Skrape, Rise Against, Flow
Manmade God -- Alternative Rock
Oh man!!! These guys are incredible!!!! They have Such a unique sound and great quality to their music. No matter what genre you like, you have GOT to check these guys out. 5 stars all the way.
My Top Recomendations: Sinch, Lo*pro, Seether, Thornley, Flow, Velvet Revolver, Skrape, Machine Head, Our Lady Peace.
Marilyn Manson – Industrial Rock/Nu-Metal
Marilyn Manson has definitely created an Image for himself. This image is also often applied to the entire industrial genre. However, odd as it is, even though as many people have heard of Marylyn Manson has George Bush, barely anyone knows what his music actually sounds like. His music is gothic, dark, whacky, promiscuous. It's really unique, and really innovative. Manson, despite his creepy image is actually a really creative guy and good orator as well. He said all those who don't love him, Fear him, and that's the way it should be. Without his makeup, he's actually pretty normal looking. Looks like Dante From Devil May Cry lol.
My Top Recommendations: Godhead, Spineshank, Papa Roach, Dear Damien, Mindless Self Indulgence, System Of a Down.
Massive Attack – Electronica/Pianist
Don't know much about these guys except that the one song I have by them, "Teardrop" is the theme song for the show house. You might have heard it. But the actual Radio Edit has vocals. Really nice Vocals to, beautiful song.
