Mon 8 Mar – Alkaline Trio, Cursive, The Dear And Departed

It was good to get back to a show after seven months of not doing shit. This was my first experience at Northern Lights, and it was certainly fine. Me and my buddy got there to find two huge lines that spewed from both ends of the doors, teeming with high school kids in Matt Skiba t-shirts waiting to get in. After initial worry that we wouldn't get in ('cause preordered tickets are for n00bs) we entered and took a place sort of near the front. After a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long time waiting the first band got up. The Dear And Departed were decent enough. The lead singer's "thank you's" after every song reminded me of local teen sensation Tony Pitkin. One song did catch my mostly apathetic ears: the chorus of their Tambourine Love was irresistible. After their set, the lead singer thanked the crowd one more time, and they left without much fanfare, as most opening acts do.
