Had some straights (as in' people who don't really like music') over today, and it's actually quite stressful trying to find stuff to play them that won't make them shit their pants or make wise-ass comments about how Autechre sounds like someone raping a dishwasher. The following worked:

I wouldn't go round to their houses and say how much their choice of soft furnishings makes me want to stab myself in the face with a toasting fork…

Ah, la rentrée, enfin. Retrouver l'Epicerie Moderne est un vrai plaisir. Cette salle atypique (trop atypique !), à l'atmosphère chaleureuse, qui se fait fort d'apporter un soin tout particulier au son (et de ménager nos tympans) : difficile de ne pas se dire qu'on va passer un bon moment face à tous ces musiciens de talent.

Ca commence pas mal avec Alasdair Roberts, folkeux Scottish éminemment sympathique, adepte de l'adage Sonic Youthien "un accordage pour chaque chanson", avec juste ce qu'il faut de reverb sur sa voix pour penser à Robin Pecknold de Fleet Foxes (qui accompagnait Joanna Newsom sur sa tournée US), mais juste y penser. Si ce n'était pas le show du siècle, toutes ses folksongs furent interprétées avec beaucoup de sincérité. Un bon moment, une mise en bouche toute en douceur, bref la première partie idéale.

Joanna Newsom a oscillé, comme sur disque, entre le très bon et l'irritant. …
