Christopher Lawrence - July 2009 updates

Christopher Lawrence and Dave Audé have teamed up with vocalist Jen Lasher for the beautiful and evocative "Lie to Ourselves" - out this week on iTunes and Beatport! Described as a "crossover" and "breakthrough" single, 'Lie to Ourselves' is already receiving support from Paul Oakenfold, Matt Darey, Agnelli & Nelson, Judge Jules, The Thrillseekers, M.I.K.E. aka Push, Ronski Speed, Kuffdam, Cor Fijneman, Dave Pearce, DJ Feel, David & Carr and Nicholas Bennison to name a few. Cutting to the chase, these are what I consider the greatest trance songs of this decade, up until the end of 2008. Once 2009 starts to take form (and there are quite a few songs out now that are promising), I'll update the list. So anyone curious about what trance music is all about should definitely check out these songs. That is basically the gist of this tower of artist and song names. Of course, while this project was done very subjectively, I do find that most of the songs are those that have achieved stellar appeal inside the music world. Though in the spirit of personal opinion, several of my "favorite" songs may or may not be in this list, so believe me that coming up with this list was not done in a few snappy minutes. I compiled this list over the course of several days after playing old tracks, researching songs that I may not have heard before, all to gain perspective and to sift out the songs that didn't make the cut. …

I thought my About Me section was looking a bit messy and crowded so I've decided to move this part of it into a journal. To be honest, my clubbing exploits are hardly something to be marvelled at, so the front of my profile is probably the wrong place for it. All the acts I've posted are ones that I've seen for at least an hour of at a time.

THE BIG COUNTDOWN - MY 150 GREATEST TRANCE TUNES (92-07)

Ok, so let's imagine someone new to trance, the type of person I euphemistically describe as the "outsider", has stumbled across PART 1 of this trance journal. They may now understand a bit better how trance works. Hopefully, it's dispelled a few myths. They may even be interested in giving the genre a try. But where the hell do you begin? While the concept is growing year on year within trance, the genre itself is not really based around the idea of the "artist album", so it's not just a case of getting a list of "reputable" trance producers and downloading their albums. Nor do I think it's enough to get one of the countless "best of" compilations that are released year on year as, despite the obvious stuff, they'll probably be missing material that has never entered the mainstream or been picked up on by the larger, compilation pushing labels. …

Thirteen weeks until Dance Island 2008!!

How time flies! The great weather we are having at the moment is giving us a taster of what should be a great summer! The UKs newest dance festival is just around the corner, only thirteen weeks until 10,000 ravers descend onto Cambridgeshire!
