Not enough emotion..? I think the violin sets in a melancholic feeling, with the birds chirping and the flowing stream... Btw here's a little review I found that asks about the intro and the flow of the album. "Despite the vastly different (if melodically complementary) sounds of its opening and closing moments, Marrow of the Spirit seems to hint at a cyclical, or perhaps spiral, development. How do you see the relationship between the individual songs on the record? Or the relationship of each song to the album's whole?" Agalloch: "The album is a journey. A full day, night, and new day unfold during the 65 minutes of this album. Each song is a different stop, a unique destination along the way from the river, through the forest, to the sea. But there is more. Like I said before, many of the concepts on this record exist within parallel universes. For instance, the story of "Into the Painted Grey" could easily take place within the "universe" of a microscopic cell in a drop of water."

Pure coincidence?You bet your jimmies it isn't! If I'm not mistaken,Agalloch blessed those tapes (why do you think they used analogue recorders on this album?)in a Shamanic ritual before proceeding to record the tracks. And if you've been to an Agalloch gig, you'll realize that before each gig, they burn these wood stuff and conduct a small ritual of sorts -which tends to make the weather outside colder and the night sky darker (take notice of this the next time you visit an Agalloch gig!) Of course, the blessing isn't always strong. On certain days (and nights), the playing of this album will only make the sky slightly darker, and the wind slightly chillier. AS_Luemmel, the planets must have been aligned that fateful morning, and the Gods must have been smiling upon you, and allowed the blessing to work at its finest -count yourself a lucky bloke! Incidentally, I've noticed that this weather altering effect only works if you play the physical CD -playing it on your iPod won't do

This morning i wanted to hear Marrow of the Spirit and here in Germany it hasn't snowed since 3 weeks or so. And after the first Tones of Into the painted Grey it began to snow. Pure coincidence?
