Agalloch came out to Massachusetts for the first time in a long time. To make this a perfect treat, they also brought along Musk Ox, Worm Ouroboros and Vindensång. While I have not heard of the last two, I have been a great fan of Musk Ox. He opened the show at about 8 pm with a quartet of beautiful classical-infused guitar music. Without the accompaniment as in the recorded versions, the songs sounded more bare, more vulnerable but no less beautiful. The last song was a new song that would be released his upcoming CD. I did not catch the title, but it was about the "Ocean".
Vindensang started with a sinister sounding song that throbbed with tribal drumming, and then launched into a diverse set of great music that spanned rock, metal, black metal, drone and ambient. I liked them enough to buy their CD soon after their set.
I had high expectation for Worm Ouroboros…
