• Albums Not On Spotify (That I Want BADLY.)

With the arrival of Spotify in the States, I've finally been able to devote myself to album-hunting. Yet - as I can understand completely - there are several gaps in Spotify's library. I'm not complaining, of course - I really prefer physical copies, anyway, and will probably buy the albums I've found on Spotify that I adore. But this is a list of those gaps that I'll have to fill, one CD at a time. Not necessarily in order of priority. It's more for my reference than anything, but you're welcome to comment.

George HarrisonAll Things Must Pass; Cloud Nine
I've always felt like I NEEDED All Things Must Pass...ever since I picked it up with longing at a pawn shop, only to put it back down. I was younger and far less appreciative then. As for the second...I read about it in Timothy White's interview with George Harrison (from his book "Rock Lives" - good read, by the by). In the article, Harrison brought a prototype to his recording agents to listen to, and they responded quite positively. …

Not sure when I'll get around to getting all these albums, but one day they will be mine. Muahahaha!!!

Subject to change at any time.

  • Adam Ant

Warsie

XDD)

Y ya de paso os recomiendo escuchar este grupazo, Adam and the Ants. Sólo llegaron a publicar tres discos, pero qué discos...

Para mí los dos mejores son Kings Of The Wild Frontier

  • A lot of love for Ants....

Well, tonight I have been listening to my old Adam & The Ants albums (okay, my mp3 collection of my old albums) and I have to say that they are still as amazing as they were when I first heard them. The result is a fair few hearts getting tagged onto tracks this evening!

I was all of about 8 or 9 when I was introduced to the work of Stuart Goddard and his band of merry men (Marco, Merrick, Terry Lee and Kevin Mooney - soon replaced by Garry Tibbs), and it was all down to the iconic imagery the band presented capturing my imagination. Adam Ant (Goddards stage name) was in his 'Highwayman' phase, and the video for Antmusic was (for the time) a treat to catch a glimpse of on TV. There was something alluring about the whole image of the dandy highwayman than made me want to be a part of this musical movement - for indeed it is tricky to catalogue Antmusic as anything but that, it being a strange post-punk/early new romanticism/nomadic sounding/tribal affray of music. …
  • Top 12 Albums (As Of 11-13-08)

    1. The B-52's "Wild Planet"
I first bought this CD in 8th grade. I had already heard most of the album's songs from their greatest hits compilation. Any songs on this album could be a hit. This album is essential for any dance party. Download: "Strobe Light"

    2. Prince & The Revolution "Purple Rain"
It took me a while to listen to this album. I had probably owned it for 6 months before I ever got around to it. I feel like this album tells a story -- Maybe because I saw the movie? -- and I absolutely love listening to it all the way through. Download: "Computer Blue"

    3. Adam & The Ants "Kings Of The Wild Frontier"
When I first placed this album on my turn table and galloping drums burst from my speakers, I fell in love. It is rare that I fall in love with an album immediately. I love the whole concept of this album. Michael Jackson is apparently a big fan of it too. Download: "Antmusic"

    4. Brian Eno "Here Come the Warm Jets"
  • Selling my CD collection

I'm selling the majority of (what's left of) my CD collection. If you live in the Montreal region and are

interested in buying one or some of these, write me a message and we can try to arrange something.

This collection is comprised mostly of what might be called alternative. There are a few albums from other

styles - experimental, punk, psychedelic, singer-songwriter, and metal. I've enjoyed most of these CDs. They

are mostly in very good condition - a few in good and quite a few in like new condition. They should all play

fine. If you can make use of any of these, let me know!

I can't hold any CDs for anyone - they will be sold on a first appointment basis. I also don't plan on shipping

any CDs - they're only for people who are willing to buy in person in the Montreal downtown area.

I'll be updating the status of CDs by editing this journal. See the following link for more info and for

Playlist for an Eighties Rebellion in Smalltown England (’82-’88)

‘Music’ started for me in about 1982. I was 12 and it was that age when I started listening to music my parents didn’t like. That, essentially, was the point of difference. Previously, I listened to music and enjoyed it but it wasn’t mine (I think ACKtheHACK wrote about this discovery phase in one his excellent journals). I have a very specific memory of hearing KINGS OF THE WILD FRONTIER by ADAM and the Ants and being totally fascinated by it. Not exactly groundbreaking in retrospect but an individual awakening. A few months later I bought the album. At the time it felt quite outrageous, they had two drummers, they wore make up! They thought they were Native Americans! Highwaymen! Pirates! The ‘New Romantic’ scene was in full flow and men wearing make-up was a popular sight in the media but not in my hometown. Oh no! Such music was probably gay and listened to by gays. I didn’t know what ‘gay’ was but listening to such music was tantamount to being ‘queer’. …
