  • Desert Island Discs

(Should have posted this here sooner)

At work, we’ve been doing Desert Island Discs and this week is my turn. I’ll be buggered if I’m writing all this lot up and not turning it into a blog post.

I win. No seriously, I win this game because I have had a theme tune written for me. Well, technically it was written for my blog, oh okay, it was inspired by the name of my blog. What? This isn’t a contest and I can’t win? Oh. Sorry.

According to my mother my first musical experience was dancing (or being danced, as I was baby at the time) round the room to T Rex. Was I too young to be influenced by this? Or did it somehow generate an interest in dinosaurs rather than glam rock? Lucky escape.

Adam and the AntsStand and Deliver
I was torn between a classic Ants track or something from his later albums. In the end memories of Saturday morning’s spent watching this video on Multi-Coloured Swap Shop won the day (but if you’ve only heard his old material check out the 1995 album “Wonderful”).
  • My CD arrived!!!

    My CD arrived today...

They said they would ring when it arrived... No call on my mobile when I checked at lunch time so I called them during my break. They said that it had come in so I was again pissed off with them that they didn't bloody call. The first time I tried to order something through them they said it would take no longer than 2 weeks and they would ring. A month and a half later, I called them and they told me that the CD was no longer available and couldn't order it, so I went in and got my bloody deposit money back. They weren't going to contact me in anyway.

The traffic today was the shittiest I have come up against in a very long time. To get past Chermside shopping Centre it would usually take around 1-2 minutes max. Today it took me 30 minutes to get past the centre. A pedestrian was hit by a car. Well two cars hit each other and the person was trapped in the middle somehow. It was cleared by the time I got there but the traffic was still flowing like crap. …
  • New CD purchases

So the CD-buying season is here again (also known as "Yay I got my student loans!"-season), and was kicked off last week with In The Mode, excellent drum 'n bass - and I can't really understand why some people say this album is inferior to New Forms. Both are equally brilliant I'd say.

This weekend I went to Stockholm, and as usual I came back with a bunch of CDs (at a ridiculusly low price).
Soulmotor - which was pretty neat, and sounded kinda like what I'd expected. Stoner-ish rock/metal, quite dusty. I was surprised to find that the band consists of members from Tesla though.
Human Consumes Human, a bit too death metal-ish for my tastes (at roughly 1 euro I guess I can live with it though) but I guess I'll give it a spin. Supposedly the lyrics are good (albeit unintelligible).
You ! Machine seems more interesting. Industrial-ish sounding metal from Belgium.
The Heraldic Universe and Beginning of Terror were really pleasant surprises. …
  • Lately

On today's glorious Wednesday off, I devoured Adam Ant's _Wonderful_ and the Afghan Whigs' _Gentlemen_.

_Wonderful_ made me feel like it was 1995 all over again. Mind you, in 1995 I was busy watching copius amounts of VH1 and enjoying life as a 10-year old. The only standout track is the title track, the rest just kind of melt into jangly-ungoodness. But I think I'll keep it because VH1 kicked a lot of ass in 1995 and I like to be reminded of it.

_Gentlemen_ is just a solid record composed of Greg Dulli's blood, sweat and scratchy voice. I can't tell you how great and how unusual this album is with its use of blues-ish vocals and vibrant guitar work. Just go and pick it up. It really makes me wish I wasn't pedophillic eye candy when this album came out.

I also went over the lyrics to the Cocteau Twins' _Heaven or Las Vegas_.

It's a beautiful song and carved rather deep into my heart:

Maybe there, while you was rail
I'll go in and seize your heart and be personal
I suspect I'm singing to you a tune
