Yeah it is a bit late....

Another year come and gone...and what music have I really enjoyed this year? By the looks of the list it seems hip-hop got the biggest spin which isn't a suprise with some really good quality albums coming out: "Fishscale" is great beginning to end; the amazing listenability of Clipse's "Hell Hath..."(normally don't go for this type of gear, but I dig this album); The return of some decent Kool Keith (Mr Nogatco & Project Polaroid); the politically charged "Pick a Bigger Weapon" with its own style of funkiness; Another hot Mr Lif album; The amazing collabs between Murs/9th Wonder and Madlib/Talib (for free no less!); The discovery of Skyzoo; and last but not least two super producers with fantastic releases - Doom's Box set & Dillas final albums.

I am a little disturbed by my lack of "hard rock" etc on the list. I listen to it a little bit, but this year only 1 album caught my ear...the new Melvins... …

Okay, here are the artists that have been suggested that I haven't already checked out or hold an irrational prejudice against. I'll write a sentence or two for the ones I've checked out and add more as I progress.

Edan Yeah, this stuff is fantastic. I've been listening to him non-stop for the last couple of days.
    Dalek
El-P Fantastic Damage plays like a classic from the first song to the last. I can't wait for I'll Sleep When You're Dead.
Mr. Lif I got I Phantom, listened to it a couple of times and I can't wait to listen some more.
    Quasimoto
Madlib Great stuff. Not what I was expecting but still awesome.
    The Coup
    Mos Def
Organized Konfusion Unbelieveably good. The Best Golden Age stuff I've ever heard. (Disagree! C'mon let's fight!)
Pharoahe Monch Very different from OK but still just as good. I need to listen to it more.
    Krs One Fantastic
Boogie Down Productions Really digging Criminal Minded right now. I need to listen to By Any Means Nescessary more.
  • Facebook Collection Impressions: #5, Hip-Hop

This one's tough for me, since I don't like hip-hop. It's tempting to just shrug it off and say that everything here sucks, don't listen to it, but then I'd be shirking my self-imposed duties. Besides, there are people out there who do like hip-hop, and it's only fair that I review every pack whether I like it or not. So, here's my impressions of the songs currently inflating these artists' listening charts.

    1. Chamillionaire - Still Tippin: Exactly the sorta stuff I figured it would be. Actually, it's a bit more placid than I would expect, since I was under the impression he did "gangsta" rap. Seems to like that scratching effect.

    2. Boss, Dougie D., Jay'ton, Lil B. & Trae - Gimmie the Mic (S.L.A.B.ed): Seems to blend three common elements of hip-hop, as I'm familiar with them: remixing, collaboration, and that high guitar-like loop.

    3. One Block Radius - Black Mercedes: It's hip-hop, certainly, but it's got more of a rock/pop structure than the last few songs, which puts it more in my sort of listening. …
