I thought this was pretty cool.
Take your top 20 artists. For each of these artists, collect the top 5 similar artists. The resulting number of unique artists is your eclectic score. If the score is small (extreme = 5) your musical preferences are very limited, and if it is large (larger than 80, extreme = 100), then you have an eclectic musical preference. Merging artist names (Help add to the list!)

I e-mailed the last.fm staff about how there are many artists names which need to be merged together. I asked them if the reason they stopped doing that was because they weren't aware of it.
Their reply was:
I'm sorry, but as it stands, it's not possible for us to merge multiple artist
names into one unified alias. This is a known issue of ours, and we wish to
address it accordingly. Until then, I can only apologize for any inconvenience
which this may cause you.
Damn, that sucks.
I guess until the time comes, we can help make their work easier by making a list of names that need to be merged. Please comment if you have any that's not listed! (I'm sure it's a lot!)
