1349 is a black metal band hailing from Oslo, Norway. The group formed in 1997 and is composed of some members of the former band Alvheim.

1349 is notable for its well-known drummer, Frost of Satyricon. The band’s music is more traditional than many modern Black Metal bands. It is similar in style and construction to the Second Wave of Norwegian Black Metal bands of the early 1990s. 1349 has been compared to the early incarnations of Enslaved, Burzum, Gorgoroth, Immortal, and Mayhem. In recognizing their influences, the band performed a cover of Mayhem’s “Buried by Time and Dust” on their debut LP.

The name 1349 was chosen by the band because it is the year the Black Death spread to Norway.

I found the new album to be a disappointment, really. I think they should leave all that artsy, atmospheric, ambient black metal deal to Deathspell Omega and go back to make fast awesome black metal. Yeah.

"I think everyone can blame Tom G. Warrior for the direction that 1349 is going. . . Style change doesn't bother me one bit as long as the music still remains good. But i have been listening to the album more and more deciding if i should buy it and it really hasn't grown on me. not one song and one real good song can get me to buy the album. . ." Bull fucking shit. Tom didn't write a thing, he didn't even produce it. He supervised it and played some instruments on Set The Controls... The dark ambient direction was 1349's idea entirely. And Tom is a god.
