Alice in Chains-Black Gives Way To Blue
I was hesitant about this one. The idea of a Chains album without Layne didn't sit to well with me but this album is awesome. William DuVall is no Layne but he's a worthy replacement. He and Jerry Cantrell harmonize and work so well together. AIC is back!

2006 didn't quite match the number of albums 2005 had, but 26 was enough to warrant me listing another 15. I expect this will be the last year I do this, but I'm not remembering just what 2007 looked like right now.

Interesting note: 2006 is the first year where I wrote my favorite albums for the year here on last.fm. I didn't look at the list then for fear of corrupting the current list, but I do know a number of them have fallen, and there are a couple that have risen a bit (hello, Copeland, who I didn't even think released a good album in 2006... and Midlake!). Also, Brand New is the only band this entire decade to have two #1 albums. Don't worry though -- they'll make up for that this year.

Albums:

1.Favourite Worst Nightmare: Marking their place in history with the ever hard-to-make second album. And what an album it is.
2.In Rainbows: It had been too long since 'Hail To The Thief', but Radiohead is back. The quality isn't completely worth the wait, but it's a solid album, with Radiohead continuing their atypical evolution as a psychedelic, electronic rock band. Or whatever you want to call them.
3.So Divided An album of 2006, but I only got my hands on it a year later. Completely underappreciated band, phenomenal record.
4.ZeitgeistNot up there with their best work, but at least they're touring again (and doing a great job).
5.Era VulgarisIncredibly addictive singles, the rest of the album is a bit of a letdown compared to them.
6.SawdustLaughter among critics: how can a band that has been playing for only a couple of years already have enough decent material to bring out an album of B-sides and experimental stuff? Well, beats me, but they sure were telling the truth. …
