    Radiohead Depressing?

    Apparently some believe that it is. I would disagree but anyways, these are my top 5 songs that would be characterized as "depressing"

    1. Street Spirit
    2. Fake Plastic Trees
    3. How To Disappear Completely
    4. Exit Music
    5. Paranoid Android

  • they were depresing at first... but after months and months listening to their music they became a melody that moves my life on.... but really they are kind of depressed... and they have whole bunch of songs that can really put you down... so its hard to choose few.. but i'll try..

    1.Nude
    2.videotape
    3.pyramid song
    4.we suck young blood
    5.sail to the moon

    Not depressing

    I don't get why so many label Radiohead as depressing? I feel uplifted my most their stuff but then maybe I'm a depressive?

  • yes, radiohead is depressing ... that's part of why I ove them!! actually it's probably more melancholic and deep than depressing... but anyway

  • Radiohead can be depressing.......IF you are already in that state of mind (in my opinion). I know ppl who say their music is depressing in general and I chalk it up to the fact that "they" listen to thumping bass, dance music, thus, anything that doesn't make you shake your booty at a dance club is depressing.

    Sometimes it can be too much to listen to Raiohead, but I would hope they would take that as a compliment!

  • I guess you can say that they are depressing at times. I certainly don't feel a rush of joy listening to "Street Spirit". But more than that I'd just say they have a melancholy feel and they're very emotional. Their songs give off a certain mood instead of explicitly telling you how to feel or anything.

    But I guess my 5 real depressing Radiohead songs would be:

    1. Motion Picture Soundtrack
    2. Videotape
    3. Street Spirit
    4. The Tourist
    5. How To Disappear Completely

    Why are 4 of those songs the last songs on an album? Hmm...

    now, you could say Nirvana is depressing but why Radiohead…?!

    Thom Yorke once said RH's music isn't meant to entertain — if you contrast happy with depressed then I think you should be worried about yourself

    and btw, given Mr Yorke's lyrics, I can't see how Radiohead's songs could be about happiness (and consider that very few artistic endeavours are based around that) — but they're also not about being depressed

    there certainly are deeper feelings than happiness — other than depression

    feelings hard to put into words that are worth singing

    but of course, when you're feeling down everything seems wrong, right?

  • Well, depression is happiness for deep people, isn't it?

    Some songs from Radiohead are indeed depressing but when I listen to them when I'm sad it makes me feel better, as if they were with me to comfort me. (ow, that sounds stupid ><)
    But I don't them as depressing. I think it's a negative word.

    That's very observant and smart of you to say that. A lot of people feel good listening to so-called "depressing" music because they feel it empathizes with them, or that it acts as a catharsis so they release their sadness.

    It's like one of the Greek tragedies. You could say it's depressing because everybody dies in the end, but it also helps you feel better about your own problems, right?

    Definatelly Yes. For me at least.
    Here is my Top depressing list:

    1: I Will
    2: We Suck Young Blood
    3: Like Spinning Plates
    4: Exit Music
    5: Street spirit
    ...and I can continue maybe till 20...

  • Radiohead can be depressing, yes. They're certainly not "happy music". But sometimes I feel like it's just the feel of the music as opposed to depressiveness. Like someone else said, emotional and such. Especially with some songs on people's lists - sure they can be depressing to listen to, but if you listen to the lyrics it isn't always so. Street Spirit has some depressing lyrics, but I feel the overall message is a positive one. Pyramid Song as well. I mean, "there was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt"? I agree wholeheartedly that it sounds pretty sad, but sometimes Radiohead songs needed to be inspected closer.

    Also, I think 4 of those are the end of albums because that's how they seem to end albums - not necessarily depressing, but tranquil, slow, etc.

    Definitively YES, is so depressing...; always a Radiohead sound ends i consider take a gun and.... hahahah... i'm not emo, and i talk seriusly :_(

  • the only thing that could depress me about radiohead is how unbelievably f*cking talented they are and how I'm never going to be able to produce anything even close to that.

    in other news, like spinning plates from the i might be wrong live album makes the top of my "depressing songs" list, whatever that means.

    erm... i wouldn't say they're depressing cos it like make me HAPPY lol funny lyrics and the way yorke sings is jusst fuckin mint always wanna listen to them lol but if i was to say what songs can be depicted as depressing i'd say:

    1) Exit Music - Of course lol "we hope that you choke"
    2) Street Spirit - Sounds it doesn't it? lol
    3) Everything In Its Right Place
    4) My Iron Lung
    5) Paranoid Android

    However, these songs ALSO make me bounce about like a hyped up fool haha love RH 4eva woooooooooooo

    Radiohead depressing?

    They are depressing. Mainly due to the soft gental sounds and quite slow talking of Thom Yorke but It's one of the few bands I feel that have the talent to be great and depressing.

    top songs would have to be: (in no order)

    i don't know. i didn't think of them that way before. but i'll do a list of the songs i found kinda depressing (?) (according to the lyrics. i guess)

  • Some songs make me depressed but many uplift me 'specially "Gagging Order".

    Probably I'd say that Motion Picture Soundtrack, Pyramid Song and perhaps Videotape are depressive. Other songs are more enthusiastic with a depressive undertone, such as Fake Plastic Trees, Nude or How To Disappear Completely.
