everyone has had this conversation before

if this "scene" thing is about friendship and unity why is there such a wall between everyone.

why is it that if you dress up, you're not in it for the right reasons?

i for one don't get all pretty to go to shows, but if you can do it then i think it's okay.

This is a shame. I think that often people that enjoy the same type of music don't realise how similar they are and therefore do not initiate communication - instead choosing to keep to themselves. However, it isn't always like that. I just really enjoy talking to people with common interests to mine, regardless of their 'scene status' or anything like that. I think its important to really get involved in the music - I know this might sound cliche but its true...

I don't really go to shows anymore, either. It's all fucking drama. I spend 30 hours in highschool a week, I'm not going to spend 8 bucks for the same drama bullshit on the weekends.

meh, I put up with drama. in our ski scene. I don't know if there's any in the hardcore scene. maybe I'm not looking hard enough.
drama's stupid but it's just a part of our world. I put up with it because I like skiing with others on occasion, and I would put up with it to see my favourite bands play.
I agree with wont_give_up--I don't really understand the girls getting all dolled up but if they want to, I'm cool with that.

to go back to the beginning of this conversation, I think it is human nature to judge by appearances, even for people who have the desire not to. it takes an enormous amount of humility to realize you're not better than other people and actually act like you believe that. tons of people preach about unity, but then exclude people because unity only applies to those who fit the mold already. it's sad and it's bullshit, but I believe it can be overcome. I just decided a long time ago to let myself be friends with people regardless of how they look or what music they listen to. that's the only way to grow as a person anyway - by being open-minded.

p.s. to enadane: if you all you care about is shooting people down for bringing up interesting conversations, don't join a "keep it posi" group.
