digital releases suck!?!?

  • digital releases suck!?!?

on the ant-zen webiste four digital only releases are announced.

Apart from the fact that I love to by real cds especially from artists which are very outstanding from my point of view, is that really nice for anybody?

I wanted to see at least at emusic.com how much the tracks are, what options to purchase.
Great, so lets get an account. But after the entry of the typical personal data, of course they want your credit card data. Uuh yeah, and they say its safe and they say I can cancel the billing when I want to.... But why is it (at least to my understanding so far) not possible to buy things on an individual basis? Looks pretty like you need to sign up on a regular basis here.

Hmm, I am totally disapointed. Would really like to get into the Imminent Starvation stuff, but I am absolutely not a fan of giving my credit card data to a milion of webshops. Whats next? Hands releases some stuff on the next online store, ad noiseam on the third? Great deal.....

    Any suggestions from anybody?

they shouldve used something like beatport, yes. never heard of emusic.

anyway, unless those releases arent really cheap, i wouldnt buy them at all. i mean, just some old tracks that appeared on some compilations a few years ago. they could have give those away for free.

    just my $0.02

I was quite hesitant when signing up for emusic as well, but it's been almost a year now, and I must say I'm quite happy with it. The quality is fairly decent (vbr mp3's), and it's a pretty good deal- $10 a month for 30 songs for the cheapest plan, the deal gets a little better as you go up. I was also concerned that I wouldn't be able to find enough stuff there that I like to keep a subscription, but like I said, it's been almost a year, and I still have a long list of stuff there to download. I still like to get cd's of stuff I really like, but emusic makes a good source for stuff that might be prohibitively expensive (imports etc), or stuff I like, but not so much that I need a cd.

paying for mp3s or aacs is a rip off any way you put it. what I would really love to see is ant-zen releasing all their vinyls in a digital, uncompressed format, that'd be something.

you are of course entitled to your opinion- but personally I quite like downloadable music. Why pay $15 or so for an album if I'm only gonna listen to the 2 or 3 tracks I actually like anyway? Of course, like I said, if it's something I really like, I'll spring for the cd in most cases.

that said, I would prefer a pay-per-download scheme to a subscription, but I liked the selection at emusic, and beatport charges too much. Not a huge fan of itunes either.

  • I like sometimes online music - as long as it has NO DRM!
Personally, i would be sad if the industrial-lables would start to only release online.

    Keep it rough and noisy!

    I agree!

Enjoy the revolutionary pleasure of thinking by yourself.

maybe I wasn't clear - I like downloadable music too, what I do dislike is the fact that most services only offer compressed (meaning lossy) versions of the originals and that's what really grinds my gears...

Just for Info : Ant-Zen and Hymen are on Beatport also. You don't need to give them any credit-card number to look what they offer. I pay via Pay-Pal if I buy anything there. You can get wav's there also but they want an extra fee for that, mostly doubling the price for a release.

  • its seems to be the future of music marketing. I personally love the buying cd's, its become a sort of addiction. Though im not against downloading tracks, if theres a track here or there that i want or need then its a good option. Being a Dj you need to keep up with music and sometimes you don't want to spend $15-$25 on an album that you only like 1 or 2 songs from. I just hope the record labels keep producing CD's....it'll be a sad day when they go :(
