Bands who've Broke Edge?

why does it matter if a band "breaks edge" are you gonna stop listening to a band because of it?

^ Sadly, some people will. I never understood it myself. If the band makes good music, who gives a fuck if they're edge (or broke edge) or not?

I guess I can kind of understand it if the band was always chanting "STRAIGHT EDGE" in a lot/all of their songs or something, but with a band like Verse, it shouldn't really matter. If you only liked the band because the members were edge, you liked the band for the wrong reason.

Mitch Lucker from Suicide Silence did.
He had DRUG FREE tatooed on his fingers, now he replaced it by black spots.
But Suicide Silence as a band never claimed to be SXE.

dudes, its fuckin' seemless why or cause what bands or members break the edge. you think about jerk stuff like that, beeing edge for you and try to stay edge by yourself!!

im thinking of starting a thread on some psych group about band members who've "broken hedonism" or something of the sort. It would be so much fun "Did the guitarist from Hawkwind really stop having a hit of acid with his breakfast!? Reallyyyyy!?"

Come on, don't tell me you're only listening to a band if all they're singing about is 100% sXe approuved ?!? We all hear the riffs first and the atmosphere of the songs, what they're saying comes after and we hope it's not just negative bullshit. Will someone listen to a boring band even if they're comitted like no other else ? NO ! What was said is still there even after the break, as long as someone believes it. I can understand that you stop listening to a band if the deception is really big, that totally human and there are so many others out there....

I want FREE listening !

I think breaking edge is a problem if a band has lyrics such as "sXe till i am fuckin dead" and so on. You cant trust them anymore. But i found stupid singing just about being straight edge. I love bands like Have Heart or Verse because their lyrics are so meaningful and strong and they dont lecture anyone to not drink or smoke or something. If Have Heart wouldnt be a sXe band, it would nothing changed for mě because I just love the band for their music and especially for their lyrics. And sorry for my bad english, I am from forgotten place in the middle Europe :D

I think the only time its even relevant (which still, you shouldn't stop listening to them) is when bands who broke edge will tour and play straight edge songs. For me it just seems half hearted and disrespectful. But I mean all that matters is how the songs feel to you, regardless of who wrote them.
