  Okay...I'm not hoggin' the shoutbox. Really, three posts in five months isn't too many. (Feel free to jump in and add something.) I just discovered a kick-ass Southern Rock Band: Blackberry Smoke. Check them out!

  Lynyrd Skynyrd lost my support a couple of weeks ago when they appeared on FOX's "Hannity" show and voiced some really dumb political beliefs. Their new CD stinks. They haven't put out any good music since some of them were in The Rossington Collins Band, despite having Hughie Thomasson and Rickey Medlocke join the band. I hate to diss a legend in Southern Rock, but Skynyrd can't continue to ride its pre-crash status this long.

  Just watched "The Allman Brothers Band - Live at the Beacon Theater". It's good to know that the first southern rock band is still out there performing those great old songs, and they've got a really great new album (2003's Hittin' the Note).

  It's shameful that Blackfoot is so low on the top artists for this group. Highway Song is one of the greatest southern rock anthems ever written, right up there with Free Bird. And they play a hell of a good concert to this day.

  March 29, 2008: The Allman Brothers Band is canceling shows because Gregg Allman is unable to play as he undergoes treatment for hepatitis C. The band has canceled appearances in Florida and bowed out of 15 SOLD OUT shows at New York's Beacon Theatre in May. The group says that for the past 6 months, Allman has been treated for hep C, which can lead to cirrhosis of the liver or liver cancer.
