I see you have New Order in there - nice! (they have plenty of other 'up' songs - Krafty, & Such a Good Thing spring to mind) Their previous incarnation - Joy Division - had ONE up song - Transmission ("Dance, dance, dance, to the radio") Also there's Sheryl Crow - 'Soak up the sun' & 'All I wanna do' And Prefab Sprout have 'Carnival 2000' and 'Life of Surprises'
Yeah, New Order rules ! :) unfortunately, I've never heard of "Such a Good Thing", weird...
Speaking of Prefab Sprout, I dont understand why I forgot them. 2 other appropriate songs are "The King of Rock'n Roll" and "Scarlet Nights"
Such a good thing - its on the 5th (extra) disc of 'Retro' - if you go here: http://www.neworderonline.com/Music/Song.aspx?SongID=261 to the NewOrderOnLine website there is a 30second clip you can listen to. That website is Great for NEWorder fans!
Prefab Sprout - scarlet nights - what album is that on? I don't remember the name (& some of my cds were stolen a couple of years ago & i havent replaced most of my Sprout stuff - just the greatest hits cd)

Yeah, I linked them on the New Order page in MB, but didn't know there were samples there... Well, the sample sounds fine, but it's sooooo short. :(

And I sympathize: some 12 years ago they stole all my CDs *and* my *tapes* too... Jeez, why would they mant my recorded tapes for ? They certainly ended up in some garbage... I was feeling like orphaned... Never could find back some very rare stuff since then... And for the anecdote: for some reason, they left my stereo... 2 years later, new burglary, and this time they didn't forget it, and the very few CDs i dared to rebuy... Since then, I only buy CDs < 9€... why waste more, I know someday I *will* be stolen again... :(
Just stumbled across this group - love the idea, there's plenty of sad, downbeat or heavy songs & genres out there, but not many that celebrate the lighthearted or more positive side of life!
And lighthearted doesn't have to mean light, throwaway fluff. The lyrics can still be very thoughtful or deep, but positive instead of depressing! :)
I've got several fave songs I'd considered "lighthearted" in that either: 1) they are humorous or a bit silly, or 2) they always make me feel upbeat and positive after listening to them. Too many to list off the top of my head, but right now I'm listening to some old Howard Jones tracks as I read this and would like to mention:

I recently discovered Richard X. Heyman and tons of his songs are very happy. When the Giants Fall is a great example, very joyful and uplifting.
Not to get cheesy or anything, but I also recently got turned on to Men Without Hats, who make me feel ten years old (in a very good way). Shouldn't The Safety Dance be listed here?
I just ran across Marvin the Album and it is both ridiculously happy and really, really good. Accidently Kelly Street is one of the happiest songs I ever heard.
Your fave lighthearted songs / musics...
