the milestone in jazz

what is modal jazz ?
his seeking for an alternative to the classic style of jazz improvisation in bebop created
the most successful jazz album of all time : Miles Davis' Kind of Blue from 1958. the theory :
modality = using scales instead of chord changes as the backbone for improvisation.
this idea influenced a whole new generation of jazz musicians and beyond, including
oud player Anouhar Brahem, japanese electronic producer Sanago Tatsuo or Nicola Conte.
most people might have ignored it : modal jazz is regarded as Miles Davis' greatest work.
( similar holds for Albert Einstein. he is popularly known as the creator of relativity theory,
but in fact he received the Nobel Prize for his contributions to quantum physics )

so what ?

you don't know what jazz is. but you will.

Hi all.. gotta say about KoB that from what I understood the album was recorded in one session.. no retakes where done.. and that the loud crash of the cymbal after the opening phase of "So What" was left in although it was not intended.. Miles was a genius.. moody yes but then great jazz players and composers were like that.. btw I am no expert if you want to find out about anything jazz-wise then google it. lol

group charts are calculated weekly by the last.fm software reflecting top listening habits of all its members. "unique" tries to filter out artists that might not be specific for this group as they are found everywhere on last.fm (that's how i understand it). you can listen to group radio by clicking the grey bar up in the right colum of this page (the quality of actually streamed tracks depends on many factors, though, it's the charts, the connected artists and labels, similar artists and some random choice from the last.fm database).

hi! this might not be the right forum for some questions, but new to last.fm and getting all headlines etc. in swedish (since i'm a swede) in joined groups i wonder what you mean by "charts"? have tried to change language into english, but in vain. here i see "week's top artists"/"totally" and "uniquely for this group" (my translation) - is that what charts are? also have to say how happy i am to be in this group. apart from mr. milestone, i'm glad to see that some of my own favourites are to be found in those lists; miles naturally, but also sam cooke and monica zetterlund, and in the "unique..."-one 5! MM feat. Corinne BR/Keb' Mo', Manolo S, John L, Esperanza... how do these artists get their way into those lists? "linked artists" i understand is the leader's choice, but the rest? last question: thought when i joined fav groups, that i would be able to listen to the lists, like a radio station, but haven't figured it out yet.... hopefully, this is gonna be my longest shout ever!!!
