Artists with similar style/feel/sound as Felt Mountain?
I'm still so absolutely in love with Felt Mountain - in particular the song Deer Stop. I was wondering if anyone found any artists or songs with that same sound?
i don't think it's possible to find anything that resembles the atmosphere, the influence of Felt Mountain or Deer Stop. that's what i love about this album - it's so individualistic, with a "take all this weirdness or leave it" attitude. it hasn't been designed to please any particular listener or radio station, nor to pay tribute to any artist or aspire to a particular established style. i think the inspirations for Felt Mountain have been more visual than musical. that's why you are unlikely to hear something else and think "oh, that sounds like Felt Mountain." except maybe if you hear something that has been directly inspired by that album.
This track: Willow's Song from the The Wicker Man soundtrack, reminded me a lot of Felt Mountain - sort of a cross between Felt Mountain and Seventh Tree.
(It's the song sung in that infamous scene in the film with Britt Ekland.
I've spent a lot of time and money trying to find other artists who can produce the same ephemeral beauty of Felt Mountain and particularly Deer Stop and ultimately have failed. It seems that great artists being allowed to produce whatever they like isn't all that common any more :-(. That said, I have found some amazing things as part of the search. For driftiness, Zero 7. For complexity made to sound simple, Imogen Heap. But really the only thing as good as the original Goldfrapp album is the second Goldfrapp album. And the third. I've been less convinced since Seventh Tree though - it seems they are making more efforts to sound commercial. I'm sure this means they're making more money (and they totally deserve it) but I can't help wishing for another masterpiece.
