  @ speculativism, about McLaren: Yeah, by talking John Lydon into fronting the Sex Pistols simply for his image, without even once hearing if he could sing or not. Then getting The Ants to all leave Adam (Stuart Goddard) all at once to form... Bow Wow... instead. Have a read, get copies of Lydon's book titled Rotten and Goddard's book titled Stand and Deliver.

  I'm currently writing my own road novel. I'm putting the book online one chapter at a time as I write them so it's possible for people to follow the creative process. I'm shaping the chapters in such a way as to make it possible to rearrange them. Later I will post the book to different websites with the chapters in various different orders. The story can start in one place or another or where you like and flow in any direction. The novel is currently up to chapter ten on Blogger at: http://how-i-came-to-be.blogspot.com/ Please read and give me feedback. The story is a mixture of personal factual experience and science fiction (though the scifi elements may not always be apparent in all chapters. Come over and tell me what you liked/hated/whatever about the story.

  i definitly think joy division fits in with beatnik. nothing to do with their being post-punk or new wave or whatever, but because of their mentality. which is all about Ian Curtis ofcourse. that guy was a marter in the true sense. if his music was his report of the world, dark, melancholic, bitter, he was a beatnik indeed, for it shows soulsearching, freemindedness, creativity & experiment, nonconformity and a hedonistic view of life. all of which can be related to the beat generation (its the word 'generation' that makes it sound to belong to a certain era; i'd say to take this to refer to the generation that first gave it a voice)
