This group was inspired by several similar groups, including Country Artist Of The Week and Singer/Songwriter Of The Week. Each week we will vote for our favorite Americana artists and the winner...




The focus of AMERICANA ARTIST OF THE WEEK will be changing staring Monday, August 15, 2011. When the group started, we concentrated on voting member artists into the AAOTW Hall Of Fame.

We will now be shifting our focus to promoting new artists, newly discovered artists, and established artists who are releasing new albums.

I will be choosing the first few artists, but I welcome discussion and suggestions pertaining to future featured artists.

WHAT IS AMERICANA?

Americana, as defined by the Americana Music Association (AMA), is "American roots music based on the traditions of country. While the musical model can be traced back to the Elvis Presley marriage of 'hillbilly music' and R&B that birthed rock 'n roll, Americana as a radio format developed during the 1990s as a reaction to the highly polished sound that defined the mainstream music of that decade."Because of listener interest in the artists who do not fit as comfortably in the country or rock genres, a radio format called "Americana" was developed by the AMA and reported by R&R (Radio & Records, a radio trade publication). Born out of the Triple A, non-commercial, country and other formats, the Americana format is the sum of the parts that have showcased Americana music since its inception.

    On the third listen I really start to like Hiatt's latest offering. Gonna see tomorrow how it holds to his other '00 releases. It's a lot better than 'Walk On' from '95 anyway.
