  I mean, I partly support this group. I can only see a justification to some animal killings in the case of improving human lives (finding and testing cures, as in rat experiments) or for hygienic purposes.(to avoid invasions e.g locusts or snakes). Otherwise, unjustified killings for food purposes, customs and practices like here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPtpPQDZ98E&feature=related ("King Crab Cut Up while still alive by Chinese Chef" ), is just despicable, disgusting and amoral and shows that there many mistakes with the human species who many times do not show compassion, empathy or solidarity for all life on this planet. I am not misanthropist but definitely ashamed for some of my fellow humans. There is much space and need for improvement. A new 3rd Millenium analogy of the Enlightenment should help us all to acquire new humanistic values on an earthly scale.

  @HenkeRock No. You are the delusional. Human lives are way more important than rat or mice lives. We have a brain mass about 1.2 or 1.5 kilograms. Rats and mice have brains less than 1-2 grams !! About 1000 times less than us. That's why they are way down on the universal list of importance based on their limited consciousness. No one suggested to crush these little rodent creatures if not needed. However, in India or Africa, this rat-mice invasion happens every day on fields and houses, so it's unavoidable for people to try to exterminate some of the rat invaders. Besides, on earthly scale, I firstly support my brothers and sisters, humans, and only then animals. Logic uber alles.   AnikeVesstFex: Agreed. No life is more or less important than any other. My life is not more important than the life of a mouse for example. Its just the deulisional industrial human that, as in most cases, have gotten life wrong and thinks its all about domination. Just look at our society at large. Its domination thinking all the way.

  Of humans we know that they have capacity and ability to reason and we have the means to make choices. The same cannot credibly be said about animals in the wild that kill to survive. So this can never be an justification for people to use and abuse other animals. People have a choice between compassion and cruelty. Of course it's not always black and white, but the vast majority of people can make compassionate choices and aim to minimize suffering in other sentient beings. As for animal experiments, it's not merely a few animals beings used but millions and only a minority is used for applied research in the field of medicine. Biodiversity isn't at all the concern (seeing as animals are specifically bred and only very rarely come from the wild), but rather the pain and suffering of individual animals. There's no proof whatsoever that most animal experiments yield any relevant and applicable results for people as systematic reviews and statistics show. Why would human DNA be sacred?

  @Altruism I don't deny the fact that humans are an animal species. However, we are in the top of the Food Chain. If you examine Nature closely, you'll see that top-predators (call it Wolf, Lion, Snake, Bear or Shark), IMPOSE the same attitude against most animals in their respective environments. Do these predators think that they might 'MISTREAT' their prey? I don't think so. They just tear them apart to bits. Being in the top of the food chain, comes with the cost of having to be dominant against less successful and less adapted animals. A few animal sacrifices for medicine reasons WON'T be the end of biodiversity. It just helps humans be more healthy. -Regarding the inaccurate experiments, maybe some technical methods are not the best, but most of them are not done on harming purpose. A few bad accidents happen due to bad luck. Regarding human superiority, even the dumbest humans have a human-DNA so it's morally unacceptable and against human rights to sacrifice them, just for that.

  Like has been said many times before - animal experiments are generally grossly inaccurate and very far from predictive of results in human patients. Animal experiments in human drug trials have a HUGE failure rate. Furthermore, humans ARE animals. There will always be certain non-human animals that have greater 'mental capacities' than certain human beings, yet we do not perform invasive non-consentual experiments on those human beings. There is no proof whatsoever that animal experiments saved more human lives than they have caused loss of human lives. Calling it 'sacrifice' does not negate the fact that animals are in fact -from their perspective- seriously mistreated, some of them to a very extreme degree. To be able to rule over other animals by force and wit does not morally justify abusing them fo suit your own interests . Some people have ruled over others (i.e. slavery) and still do to this day - that does not mean it's good practice.

  "It's cruel, unnecessary, scientifically unsound and expensive, and that the results are misleading" Really? How about only testing drugs in animals so as to create more potent drugs to save human lives?? Is not that the essence of humanity - the instinct of human self-preservation and helping each other? Are you against saving human lives? It's sad to see so many misanthropes loving animals more than humans!! We are on the human side, not the animal one !! Listen to your nature and be with the human side!! No one said to mistreat any animals, but some of them could be sacrificed in the name of medicine because they are inferior in mental capabilities. If someone should be sacrificed to find the cures for human diseases then let it be the animals and not HUMANS!! We rule the planet anyway for the last 100 thousand years, animals were always our pets and not equal to us. That's a fact of life no matter how pro-animal you are, if you have a decent human brain you can't ignore the facts.
