It's because of licensing agreements. Blame the record labels. They're too stupid to understand that people are more likely to buy music if they can listen to it first.

another voice from the cheap seats - "i can*t listen to my playlist;what to do" - "subscribe". this is ridiculous. if the last.fm ppl would have a bit of class left, i would have gotten an email, warning me, explaining something, instead of...just nothing except a design change plus some collateral damage, like "the songs in the playlist arent accessible for the proles anymore". well they won't make me subscribe by taking away something without explanation. getting along without last.fm quite nicely so far...

Totally agree that there should have been some warning; both about the switch to the new format and especially about the playlists. That wasn't handled well at all.

They would be handled this a lot better... but at least that's not really their fault =/

I can’t play full tracks in the Flash player neither.

Sorry folks, I loved this site, but what is happening now is outrageous. And I’ve just prolonged my subscription. We are here, real people with heartbeat, using your site daily. You should’ve stayed in Beta for another month or two.

balls... I was sure they'd do something to make people subscribe some day. I used to be a subscriber when I knew I was just sort of donating to the site, but now that I know they added the free features short-term just to get people hooked up on the playlist makes me feel that antitrust ipod/skype-ish tingle.
very shit move with the the site update abruptly cutting off normal user features, especially when they preach the update made last.fm better.

If this is last.fm mindset don't want to pay them anymore. I hope there are last.fm alternatives out there should they decide to start charging for simple scrobbling. Just going to free-load until I start getting popups...

Am I wrong for wanting an internet where websites's main purpose is making the online world a more available place rather than wanting to make as much money as possible?

Next release of the client, I imagine. They're not going to want to give us a date for that though. Rough estimate, maybe?

Aw sorry guys...i kind of lost this thread..it started exactly the day my summer vacations begun :P
Well, you know that usually we don't answer directly to problem listed in the known issues since we are yet aware of them, hence they are "officially" work in progress.

The playlist feature is one of the thing that went through some changes in the last major update, as mentioned we have to deal with licensing more than technical issues, as you can imagine it is a quite complicated matter given the dose of bureaucracy involved in this sort of things.
Plus bear in mind that we stream music all over the world wich means something like 240 countries. And every country with its own licence agreement to deal with. Agreements are local sure, but of course we have to keep a "scalable" model.
Last.fm service became wider and more complete through the years but some "growing pains" are an inevitable part of the process.
