  • Winamp 5.5 Scrobbling Problem

    Hi,

    I just installed the new Winamp 5.5 and there seems to be a problem using it with the last.fm client. When I start playing MP3 files from a playlist, the last.fm client shows the first file and scrobbles it but when the next file starts the client still displays the first file (it stays there for the entire playlist). Does anybody else has this problem?

    Additionally, the last.fm installer still doesn't recognize a Winamp installation in a non-standard installation directory (like d:\tools\winamp), you have to add Winamp manually to your media player list so the installer can download the appropriate plug-in.

    Known problem with the plugin, temporary solution: switch back to beta build 1568. Build 1600 has the same problem.

    I am not sure what version was released as Winamp 5.5 'Final' the other day, but I upgrade to that one and have no problems whatsoever...

    The problem was mentioned several times on the winamp forum in the threads of the 1600 build beta tests. When playing a playlist not all files are scrobbled (often doesn't pick up properly on switching tracks).

    Winamp released the final version on its portal.

    And here ends the beta testing phase....

    A big thank you to everyone who has contributed and helped us quash bugs.

    Err... just for the record.
    Are we talking problems scrobbling using the client, or (as I see in various posts on the Winamp-forum) using the standalone (and not longer supported) oldstyle app?
    Because I have no problems whatsoever using the client, and I am not going to reinstall a standalone plugin that is (as mentioned) not supported anymore, just to see if your problem is there...

    Problems occurred in winamp 5 with the latest client/plugin from beta 1600 up to the final version. Lot of ppl have this problem, not just the few mentioned on the winamp forum, trust me it's a "bug".

    New tracks aren't picked up all the time, also previous played tracks keep showing in the client as 'now playing', where winamp is actually playing another file. A hard advance by clicking a next track in winamp, or opening the mp3 file by clicking often does result in a pickup, problem seems more in playlist advance i think.

    I've switched back to build 1586, no more problems.

  • yea this problem must be made official by now, i've uninstalled and reinstalled las.fm twice now. both times it would scrobble the first track in the playlist, then it ignore all the rest, dunno why.

    but did not have this problem with preview 2, did not bother dl preview 3, and now i have the final, and yeaaa, does not scrobble.

    Have you tried a complete and clean reinstall of Winamp? By getting rid of all Winamp-leftovers on your system? Including those in the registry? It can be that your problems are the result of a part of the beta-software you were using.
    And for what it is worth, it looks to me the problem is in the player, not the Last.FM-software.

    As I stated before in this thread, I downloaded the 'final' 5.5 version from the website today (not a beta... 5.5 is now available for normal downloads) and have yet to find problems... after a full day of playing and toying around. I can not reproduce any of the problems mentioned.

    Sure i did. And if the problem is in the player, do u leave the resolution of it to last.fm users? Should we contact winamp development to make the last.fm plugin work?

    Like i said, lot of people have this problem, if u can't reproduce it that doesn't mean there is no problem. Just funny this is the 3rd time i've experienced problems after an update of winamp, and the scenario plays out the same every time. If i've been aware of this for some time, shouldn't last.fm? Shouldn't be too hard to test the beta's of probably the most used player on compatibility issues..

    as long as the client plugin is using basically the same methods to detect playback (which seems to be the failing issue) then working on the old seperate codebase will not be a problem. the main issue lies in that the problem seems to only be affecting a number of users whilst is fine for others (and was working fine throughout the whole of the 5.36/5.5 dev phase on my machine - even when i shouldn't have been running the thing to ensure i was testing dev builds properly).

    now i'll look into things on my end with what code i have though as it seems to be only related to modern skin usage this may take a while to work out (since i'm one of those not seeing the issue and in all honesty i can't see why it wouldn't work or would be intermittent)

    all i ask is that those experiencing the issue, can you confirm system specs and what skin (or skins) you've tried winamp with and whether scrobbling works or not plus how you're monitoring that scrobbling is working

  • alright, complete uninstall reinstall on last.fm and winamp 5.5 final, did not fix the problem.

    maybe its a specific plug-in your using thats diff, or maybe there is something from the new winamp you didnt install, like media library or something...

    im going to enjoy my new winamp 5.5, hope someone finds a solution...

    Same problem here. Doesn't update when advancing in playlist or in any other way (f.ex. by pushing "next"). I have never used the beta in any way, and I made sure all leftovers were deleted before the new install.

    Scrobbling doesn't quite work for me, either. The Last.FM client picks up the currently playing song only intermittently. The problem seems to lie in detecting when a new song is played. For example, the client shows that song "A" is playing and the countdown to scrobbling is active. If I switch to song "B", either manually by double clicking the song or using the Next-button, or Winamp advances automatically to song "B", the client still shows that song "A" is playing (or was scrobbled). But to complicate matters even more, every now and then the client does detect that a new song has started :/

    This problem started with Winamp beta preview 3 and still exhibits in the 5.5 version.

    Specs:
    - Windows XP
    - Winamp 5.5 (with a bunch of plugins, haven't tried a clean install)
    - Latest Last.FM client and the included Winamp plugin
    - Tried both classic and modern skins in Winamp, no change

    * edit: the Winamp plugin is ml_wa2_scrobbler.dll (2.0.45.0)

    i forgot to also ask what version of the plugin is being used (specifically if it's named ml_* or gen_*

    and for me i've been testing with a complete install of everything that's built as part of the winamp distro. the only thing i can even vaguely imagine as the point of possible change was the dropping of the unicows support from all of the code (which was done just before b1600 though i know from the cvs logs that otherwise nothing was messed with in winamp.exe's code that i can even account for the weirdness)

  • I'm affected - clean install of Winamp (5.5 final - never downloaded any of the beta versions), modern skin (not Bento), on an XPSP2 system.
    Initially installed the old plugin - didn't work (said it couldn't detect the track play), so I got rid of that and installed the client. Scrobbles intermittently, I can't find any logfile or any way of seeing what's going wrong. It mostly acts totally unaware of what I'm playing. Seems to track the first play on start-up, then ignores most track changes.
    Aside from that, no other plugins were installed.

    Edit:
    The plugin is "ml_wa2_scrobbler.dll", and my old scrobbler was ml_* too...

    I'm having the same problem as well. last.fm won't read the tracks even when I right click on "View File Info" and enter the ID3 info for the track that's missing the info.
    I installed over Winamp 5.35 and it worked. The only strange thing about the install was that Winamp prompted me to add in my files again which it would never do in the past when I installed over a previous version.
    I started out using the Bento skin (really cool!) because it has some cool new features. I had not used any of the beta versions. However in the past few days the last.fm client was experiencing some trouble scrobbling tracks way before I even heard that there was a new winamp version out. The last.fm plugin is ml_wa2_scrobbler.dll and sometimes it will not move on to the next track, sometimes it does.
    At the moment I'm using the classic winamp skin and everything seems to be working. If getting the last.fm client means using the classic skin instead of the new Bento skin then I'll uninstall winamp 5.5 and reinstall winamp 5.35.

    I have windows xp with SP2
    winamp 5.5 with the spacial audio stacker plugin and shoutcast source.
    Plus the latest last.fm client with winamp plugin.

    I'm going to see if using the classic skin for an hour has any affect and then switch back to the Bento skin next hour.

    I can give you results from two different systems:

    One: An upgrade of Winamp 5.35 to Winamp 5.5 Beta, build 1600, fully installed, including all new bells and whistles. No additional plugins. One classic skin installed but used with the new Bento-skin. No other modern skins available on this system.
    Fresh install of Last.FM Client 1.3.2.13, on a completely patched and up-to-date WinXP. Current Audioscrobbler Winamp plugin: 2.0.45.0 (ML Mode)
    Has been working like a charm since upgrade (a few days ago). No problems whatsoever.

    Two: An upgrade of Winamp 5.35 (and several earlier versions) to Winamp 5.5 Final, installed without modern skin support, the new tools, winamp-agent and video-support. Medialibrary was installed, however without other MP3-players than iPods and the dashboard-options was ignored. Plugins used in this installation include LucidAmp, Dynamic Library, ActiveWinamp, Lyrics Plugin and Advanced mIRC Integration 2.61
    The used Last.FM-client has been upgraded through ALL the betas released the last 7 months. Current Audioscrobbler Winamp plugin: 2.0.45.0 (ML Mode). Same as above... OS is a completly patched and up-to-date WinXP.
    Since my update, earlier today, I have had no problems scrobbling tracks.

    I have the same problem. It started with the Winamp 5.5 beta, but still exists in the final ver. I've tried switching skins, uninstalling and reinstalling the last.fm and the winamp software, and even tried the scrobbler plugin suggested in the winamp support forum. Nothing helped. Earlier today the problem still existed, but for a few hours now it's been keeping stable. I'm running on XPSP2.

    Btw, if I restart a song (sometimes a couple of times) the scrobbler kicks in and works for some time. I hope that you find where the glitch is as I really liked the new winamp ver. Thanks

    EDIT: It seems that if the Shuffle function is on, the problem disappears.

    It's started again and I'm still using the Classic skin. I checked to make sure the ID3 tag info was there and it is. Maybe the last.fm client just isn't compatible with Winamp 5.5?

  • mhmm. I see this issue too. For me a sure fire way to reproduce it, since the mod can't seem to, is to do the following:
    1. Start up winamp(and the last.fm app if you use it. full app or plugin doesn't matter. results are similar either way)
    2. make a short playlist of 4 to 5 tracks.
    3. start up a fullscreen application such as a game.
    4. start playing your playlist while playing the game.
    5. let the whole list play without any stopping, restarting, or manual skipping as you play.
    6. exit the game at the playlists end and look at your recent submissions, chances are only one, if you're lucky, will have submitted.

    From what i've observed when using winamp 5.5 is that unless you watch the old plugin or the app(it doesnt mater which) and make sure it picks up every song it'll skip the majority of them. With the full application in particular, if it's minimized to the tray it's much more likely to skip. That's just my observation of course. Your mileage on the mere minimized when not gaming part may vary. But the list of steps above to reproduce it always works without fail.
