Feb 25 Site Update
Hey everyone,

We've just put a small site update live on the English website. If you spot any new bugs in it, please report them as usual over in the support forum. To discuss the changes, you can use this thread or find a relevant one in the feedback forum.

So what's new? Here we go:

Return of the free downloads hub
Remember ye olde free downloads page? It's back. Check out the most popular free mp3s on Last.fm (uploaded directly by generous artists and labels via the Music Manager), and explore them by tag. We're working on making free content easier to find on Last.fm, and thought this was a good first step. Happy downloading!
New browsing + filtering options on the "Music" page
The music landing page has been updated to expose more data about the Last.fm music catalogue -- powered of course by your scrobbles. You can now see what's popular in your country, paginate to your heart's content, and filter it all via a selection of our top tags.
New API methods
Calling all code wranglers… you might enjoy these additions to the Last.fm API: a feed of images for any artist, and the ability to leave shouts on events, artists, and users.
Many other fixes and improvements, including...
the library now shows what time period it's displaying on profile pages; "ghost" unread message / inbox caching fix; improvements to image voting; distance filtering in advanced events search; ability to remove tags from auto-corrected artists and tracks; and more.

The work never stops at Last.HQ, so see you back here soon.

A Last.fm app in air would be great :p Maybe you guys could just code that! Great additions too

Nice...

How's about getting the inline player to play the next track instead of just stopping? Very frustrating and not a huge problem to solve surely?

That behavior is intentional due to licensing restrictions.

Thank you a lot, waiting for another big update :). I'm hoping for something with music and albums :).

The 'music' page looks great.

I'd like to report a bug, not in the recent updates, but in tag pages. The albums shown as recently added aren't that new to be honest, like here:

They're not "new albums", they're "new to Last.fm" - stuff we've recently added to our catalogue.

Good work on giving the free downloads more exposure, and thanks for finally putting the time period label on the library! If you get a choice of the main playlist option soon you'd have covered all of what I really wanted since the big update.

Also its great your updating us when you make these changes these days rather then letting us find out on our own like was the case before the new year..

What about a search on the free downloads page? As it is, we can see all popular downloads, and popular downloads from a selection of tags down the left-hand side. But it seems I'm out of luck if I want indie pop downloads - except I'm not. If I could do that without manually typing the URL, that'd be great. Obviously the return of the download section is great even without it, but that seems an obvious and fairly easy thing to add in (especially as the new music page does have a tag/artist search).

(I notice an event.getAttendees API method - I was thinking about something the other day which needed that. Out of my head, Last.fm staff! Now all I need is to actually become vaguely competent at coding)

[edit: Oh, and major approval for getting the time period into the library section on profiles]

Also what about a page with free tracks? Not talking about downloads, but tracks free to play. I live in Poland where on-demand listening isn't (yet?) available and I'd like to listen to some tracks directly from Last.fm and I have no idea where to find them.

Thanks for the new feature.

Just looking at it, how come I have loads of 0 plays? I know for sure I've listened to a fair few of those loads of times. Display error?

My guess is its an issue with the auto corrections from looking at my own library.

eg I have Whats Left Of The Flag with 0 plays because its been corrected to What's Left of the Flag which does have plays listed.

True, but i would like these update news to be more obvious, perhaps with a link somewhere that redirects to the actual update thread! Especially useful for users who don't scan the feedback forum regularly...
