Volmer directs the ASO in another of Mahler’s masterpieces, his Seventh Symphony (The Song of the Night). One of Mahler’s longest and most detailed scores, Symphony No 7 showcases Mahler’s compositional virtuosity with colourful brass sections, strong horn solos and the magical sounds of mandolin and guitar intertwining for a spectacular adventure of dreams, nightmares and serenades.
“In my view, it’s one of the most wonderful symphonies Mahler wrote, full of positive energy, a path from a dark beginning to a bright present,” says Volmer.
This 80 minute, five-movement epic musical depiction of night turning to day will be performed without interval.
